Great Family Fun on Freedom of the Seas

Sail Date: October 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

We really enjoyed the 7 night eastern caribbean cruise of FOS.
The kids enjoyed the activities for their ages (Voyagers and Youth).
Be careful of the arcade... the costs add up quickly. You can limit your child's sea pass account once you get on board.
The family loved the pools, flow rider, rock climbing wall, putt putt, ice skating (take long pants and socks and even long sleeves).
The entertainment shows were all outstanding.
THe kids and adults both did the cup cake decorating class... which was fun.
Dinner every night was quite good.
About the only issue we had was our dinner wasn't over until 9:30 or 10 and after 10 there is a charge for Adventure Ocean (kids area). But the kids enjoyed it and it gave the parents a chance to go to shows.
Our week was the first week of the new soda machines. If you purchased the soda package you get a cup with a sensor which operates the soda machine. So it was challenging for the kids to keep up with their More cups all week.... plus a little gross because you could rinse it out but not really wash it.
The sensor is not linked to anyone's seapass account... so anyone can pick up a cup lying around the pool deck and have sodas the rest of the week. You have to pay to get the cup replaced if you lose it or it is stolen. My son's was taken out of his backpack while on CocoCay. I went through 4 customer service people before getting the cup replaced. I think Royal Caribbean needs to rethink this system. Less

Cabin review: Freedom of the Seas Deluxe Oceanview Deck 6 6330

Room 6330- Great location for our family. It was near the elevators/ stairs that were on the end where our dining rooms was as well as the kids activity areas. Balcony really seemed to add space and gave us a little sitting area when some of the family was still asleep. This room had the two twins made as one king bed and a sofa that folded out for the kids.

Port and Shore Excursions

We were surprised how much we enjoyed CocoCay. My husband and 12 yo son parasailed and thought it was a great experience. My 10 yo son and I stayed on the beach. He built sand castles and played in the water. Actually saw a small sand shark which was exciting. We were traveling with another family and the four kids did the aqua park and the water slide. While they thought the aqua park was alright.... they loved the water slide. It is on the beach, and doesn't slide right into the water, which they thought would be a bummer.... but they loved it. The sand is a little like the texture of clay so it feels somewhat slimy. The CocoLoco drink of the day is yummy and the bar b que buffet was very nice. All in all it was a nice day.

Our excursion in St Martin was Random Wind Sailing which I found on Trip Advisor. We did not book through the boat. It was outstanding. We took a taxi to the meeting location. Our sail boat captain met us right on time. The sail boat is beautiful and the crew is knowledgable and eager to make sure everyone has a great time. We saw sting ray and star fish and jack fish. But the fun in in the sailing and at the second stop the crew lets out the tarzan swing, which is a trapeze like swing and everyone had a great time swing off the boat into the water. Diane cooked us a fantastic lunch and made sure we were back in time to get back to the ship and even called a cab to meet us at the dock. We all really enjoyed our day on Random Wind. If you go to St Marten .... look them up.

Jet Boat Ride

We did the Sea Blaster Snorkel tour. The boat ride was fast and fun. You do get wet! The first snorkel location was Christmas Cove. We had been to St Thomas/ St John a few years ago and thought Christmas Cove was not one of the better snorkel spots. Second stop was turtle cove. We did see several Sea turtles and that was quite cool. There really wasn't anything else to see there though. If you are looking for a fun boat ride and swimming with sea turtles, it is a good excursion. If your looking for excellent coral and many varieties of sea life, these snorkel spots were not outstanding.
