Ship Facts: Splendour of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Splendour of the Seas Deck Plans
First timers - exceeded expectations
Overall we were impressed by the splendour of the seas and the cruise in general

The good points

Good size ship - easy to move around and not too many crowds

The variety of activities - something for everyone

Cleanliness - cant be faulted

Food - great quality and loads of variety (we didn't eat in windjammer that often as buffet isn't our choice )

Stateroom staff - did a fantastic job - look out for the animals in your room

Most of the ports - great selection

The overall organisation of moving people on and off - never a problem getting on or off in ports

Centrum shows - good standard - well beyond what u expect on a ship

Choppes - if you don't think it's worth the extra spend think again - it was fantastic

Izumi - great for a change from the king and I

My time dining - king and I - well worth picking and choosing when we ate and who with - all requests for a table for two were met

All "front of house staff" waiters, activities, day spa, gym

Meeting people and making new friends

The not so good

Outdated forced fun activities - seriously whilst they try to offer something for all some of the activities should be retired - just how many times is a belly flop competition funny?

Bari - poor port of call - nothing really to see once you visit the basilica

RCL shore excursions - good price but we found the Corinth canal and Corfu in particular to be poor standard - we did our own things after two bad days out and enjoyed them way more

Stateroom furniture - whilst the ship has been refurbished - including new bathrooms the furniture needs to go ours had many chips and scratches with drawers sticking - it needs to be replaced to bring in line with the rest of the ship

Over zealous security team - found many of the security team to be unfriendly and borderline rude - they have an important job but they still need to remember they are part of customer service

Limited "how to cruise" information. Whilst the compass news gives information on daily events there is very little information on the ways of a cruise - we found out more by trial and error and fellow customers than we did the information from RCL (eg if you buy a bottle of wine and don't drink it all they will store it for you for another night - great if you are a small group or don't drink much)

Everything comes at a cost - sure u can eat and drink with what's in your fare but if you want anything else it's $$$$

And finally - those damn photographers at every turn (at a tour cost of $249 on our cruise) not everyone needs a bad cheesy superimposed photo taken at every meal, boarding, disembarking or toilet stop. You try look cheery after 30 minutes carrying luggage through Venice and then almost an hour of checking in, inspections and questions on initial boarding - the last thing you want is a camera stuffed in your face - we would have bought "no paparazzi" tshirts if we could.

Overall we really did enjoy our first cruise. The not so good above didn't change that - but they are just our thoughts on what could be better

Would we cruise again? Absolutely. With RCL? Of course
