Imperial Jewels of China: Viking Emerald Cruise Review by OldProfessor

Imperial Jewels of China
The itinerary had us spending more time on land than on the ship, but it enabled us to see several highlights of China (the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the terra cotta warriors) quickly and efficiently; and the experiences were memorable. Land accommodations were wonderful, food was very good, and we really enjoyed and appreciated our small group's tour guide (Shanshan Wei). The company handled changes and transfers between locations very nicely. We especially appreciated the fact that the excursions were all included as part of the cost of the trip.
Flooding on the Yangtse River meant that we had to board and depart the boat at unexpected places, and we were impressed that Viking was able to make adjustments in our schedule and arrange for transportation to keep us on our journey.
We started in Beijing and ended up in Shanghai, and we strongly recommend that More itinerary. (The reverse trip is also available from Viking.) It was really nice to have most of the walking and land travels at the beginning of the trip, and then the time on the ship was more relaxing. It was also nice to begin with some of the earlier historic sites and end the trip in the modern city of Shanghai.
The entire experience was very special, and we look forward to planning another adventure with Viking. Less
