Eastern Med Magic
First of all let me say that my wife and I are fairly experienced cruisers and so have plenty of points of comparison.

Negatives - Announcements in five languages. Fairly short time allowed in port.

We were aware of both these before we travelled and so they came as no great surprise. In any event the announcements were only made about three times a day and soon ceased to intrude. The amount of time in port is, to a large extent governed by the itinerary and as the destinations were a major factor in our choice of cruise this criticism is also tempered with pragmatism.

Positives - We made our own way to the terminal (earlier than scheduled following the advice of a previous critic) and were in our cabin by 1pm and our luggage swiftly followed.

Our balcony cabin was excellent being somewhat larger than previous cruises and there were welcome surprises in the bathroom with fluffy towel robes and best of all proper shower doors rather than a clingy curtain. It was immaculately clean and kept so by our efficient and friendly steward.

We ate in the buffet for both breakfast and lunch and whilst it was always busy (the ship being fully booked) we never failed to find a vacant table.

Dinner in the Villa Rossa Restaurant was generally very good with plenty of choice from the several courses on offer although it has to be said that the salads would have benefited from a little more tomato, cheese, onion etc and a little less lettuce. The staff were invariably efficient and friendly.

The evening shows were excellent if a little samey with a very high standard of singers, dancers and acrobats. The money saved on not having a resident band (all the music being "canned")was very well spent on the artistes.

A major plus was the Allegrissimo drinks package. We are both moderate drinkers but it was great fun at dinner to check with our fellow diners how much "profit" we had made that day.

Disembarkation was well organised the only minor criticism being a lack of signs for the free shuttle buses from our remote berth to the Venice "People Mover"

All in all a splendid cruise and we will strongly recommend MSC to all our cruising friends.
