Costa Magica cruise report - February 2005

Costa Magica, the latest addition to the Costa fleet, sister ship of Costa Fortuna, is the largest ship I set foot on. I sailed on her on 11-day cruise to the Eastern Med, in the first part of February 2005.

At about 105 000 tons, she is 'just' 15% bigger than Celebrity's Constellation, on which I sailed in July 2003, but appears much bigger. She's not as long, but wider and much higher, much "fatter". Her superstructure is regular in shape, her forward deckhouse so close to the bow and so high that she appears impressive and boxy. At the same time, she looks compact and angular enough to make you understand that there's no space wasted! She's all painted in white; the only "colour" element being the glass of the balconies and windows, the yellow funnel - standing just like a very big pipe- topped by a black ring and fitted with the "C" of Costa on both sides.
