Good things first. I really enjoy the small size of this ship since we are able to dock at most ports including Monte Carlo and the closest terminal in Barcelona. The staterooms are to our liking with tub/shower and decent hair dryer. Ice bucket re-filled every morning and self service laundry facilities onboard was helpful. Most of all we are allowed to bring wine, soft drinks on board as long as we consumed them in our staterooms. Italian alternative dining Canaletto is very good (did not charge extra)
The Bad: Food in the dining room was very inconsistant in quality. On half the days it was good and the other half we had some terrible blunders ex. squishy cheesecake, food was either bland or too salty...I have to say food was alot better on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Steak was not offered every night, neither was the prawn cocktail. Lido did not have the same food as the dining room, ex. prawn cocktail served in dining room became small bay shrimps in Lido. It was quite hard to More
get reservation for Canaletto.
Entertainment: Really I'd rather go to bed early...yawn
Disappointment on the first part of the cruise because some port time cut by 1 hour. Monte Carlo we were late to arrive by 1hr, Rome we had to leave 1 hr earlier than scheduled, Cadiz we also had less time than scheduled. La Goulette Tunisia was cut all together due to unrest and instead we docked at Cagliari. We were given close to no info about the new port of call and the city is not so exciting. In Ibiza we were originally to tender to the town center but the ship was docked at the remote dock and we had to pay for a transfer to town?! Less
Wonderful city. We arrived 1 day early to take in some shopping as shops close on Sunday and can you believe it, we keep coming back on Sundays! Even without shopping we had plenty to see as le merce festival happened when we disembarck. Staying at le Meridien we were in the center of action.
Lovely city, Monaco. When we arrived we took the train to nearby Nice and walked around the old town. We came back in the afternoon to the Monte Carlo area, took in the Casino and the high end shops. Lovely gardens everywhere. After Monte Carlo we took the bus to the Old town early evening and had no crowds since most people did the old town in the morning. Took the bus back to the port and called it a night.
Scary city, the atmosphere was so dark. Garbage everywhere. Locals were frowning all the time. This is not a pleasant city to walk through. We were blessed with sunny skies throughout our travel except for this port. Let me tell you things look even worse with rainy skies. One happy thought, the Hugo Boss store had 50% off everything so Happy Shopping at least?
We tendered from Santa Margherita ligure. Took the boat to Portofino. Beautiful picture opportunities with the colored houses. Had an expensive cappachino at a street cafe and took it easy. Took the boat back to SML and had terrific seafood lunch.
Not much in historical sites remaining. We were originally scheduled to go to Tunisia but due to the unrest we had to re-schedule. I guess it's because we did not research this port and cruise line gave close to no tourist info we felt it was not a worthwhile port to visit.
Hetic day, rush rush rush. We took Top Day Tours guided tour from Cadiz to Seville. Bit of a history lesson on the bus from our knowledgeable guide Debbie and relaxing ride (thinking glade we did not take public transportation) From the moment we got to Seville we rushed through everything, not really the tour's fault as our day shortened unexpectedly; but I really wish to be able stop and smell the roses so to speak. We had a 10 minute washroom break with our guide (lucky since another group did not even have this break) and 1 hour lunch at the end before driving back to Cadiz. Reminds me of why I hate group tours, wish I had stayed in Cadiz.
