Mariner of Seas September 15, 2012 cruise

Sail Date: September 2012
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Other

The Mariner of the Seas 09.15.12 cruise to the Holy Land from Rome was a very disappointing experience. It was the worst of the five cruises we have sailed on.

The ship was very dated with chipped and broken bits in the bathroom, faded dank smelling hallway carpets with stains and sticky tables and chairs in the Windjammer restaurant.
The floors were sticky all the time in the 5th floor pastry cafe
Smoking appeared to be liberally allowed on the ship and caused the indoor promenade to smell of dirty ashtrays all the time.
The food was fair at best, but was an obvious redux from one day to another.
The desserts were simply awful.
The entertainment was not even worth mentioning.
When we asked some of the crew what had happened since our last RC cruise 6 years ago on one of their spotless ships, they all said "cutbacks".
The Internet service was a complete rip-off (67 Cents a minute, but due to the slow Internet speed, the actual charge work out to More be 4X that amount to get through emails or a simple website like CNN. The Internet speed felt like 28.8 Modem at best).
The Complementary TV selection in the room was very bad. (Of course they had pay per view).
The Gym had old, dated equipment with no viewers on the treadmills.
The Solarium pool had large, dirty rust streaks on the pool bottom surface.
The ship is sorely lacking in any modern amenities or luxury that one would associate with a ship in 2012.
Lastly, we were in room 6123 and had to be moved due to pounding club music right below our room. When we told the room attendant, he said people always had to be moved from that noisy room because the pounding music was so intolerable. (So the ship knows about this but waits for their passengers to be sorely inconvenienced)???
I probably wouldn't trust Royal Caribbean with my cruise dollars again. I would change the name of the cruise line to "Cutback Cruises" if it were up to me. Less

Cabin review: Mariner of the Seas Interior Stateroom Deck 8 6123

Cabin was dated and noisy from the disco below. We had to be moved. Bathrooms were the smallest we have experienced. Bathroom had a chipped floor and chipped mirror and a dirty shower stall. TVs were apparently new, but had very poor resolution. Remote controls did not work well.
