This cruise was my 4th on Pride of America and it was as wonderful as the first 3. We are 50 and 60 and fairly active. We both love cruising and cruise once a year.
We flew into Honolulu on Thursday afternoon and were at our hotel with in an hour. We chose to stay at the Marriott and booked our stay with NCL because we liked the convienence of having early check-in and transportation to the pier. We have always done this in the past and once again it was a great decision. The Marriott is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful location on Waikiki.
Boarding on Saturday was fast and easy and we were on our ship ready for a wonderful week. I love Pride of America because she is so easy to love. The crew was great and our room steward was awesome.
We had our fist aft balcony and all I can say is that I am thrilled that I booked afts in my two upcoming cruises. It is quiet back there and the view of the wake was wonderful. The cabin was a standard size and had plenty of room for the two of us. I love the storage behind the corner mirror in the bathroom - perfect for things you will need to use often.
We did many excursions and would highly recommend them all. Haleakala sunrise was beautiful and we were lucky to have good weather for the viewing. We asked our room steward for blankets on Sunday night and he provided them. Also, the Cadillac Diner was open and had coffee and light breakfast things set out. Thanks NCL.
Tuesday morning in Hilo we did the Crater Hike and Akaka falls. Another great tour but be prepared because it is a true hike. Going down into the crater was easy as was the walk across but the hike back up would be difficult for some. We loved the fact that we were actually in the bottom of a crater and the views on the hike were awesome. Akaka Falls was beautiful too as it had been raining, once again luck was with us weather wise.
We chose the Canopy Zip Line for Thurday on Kauai and were not disappointed. Our guides were fun and we had 7 lines, more than any we had done before...a total blast.
Thursday night was the Luau, we opted for the upgraded Manor House and felt like royalty. Early pier departure, our meal on the manor house grounds, front row seats for the show and first back to the ship.
Friday morning we awoke to rain in Kauai and were a bit concerned about our helicopter tour. When we arrived we were told we would have to wait and see and within a 1/2 hour we were watching the safety video, and borading the shuttle to the airport. What a wonderful experience it was to see the Na Pali coastline from the air and later in the day by sea.
Disembarking was easy, we had 9:00 luggage tags because we added a day room stay at the Marriott through NCL. We did not have a flight out until late that night so we decided to take advantage of NCL's transportation and day room and once again we were not diappointed.
We only saw one show and that was the comedian Tim Kaminski (who was great)because we are early risers and were worn out by the end of the days activities. We also ate most of our meals in the buffet which we found great. We did eat in the Lazy J on Monday night with another couple from our CruiseCritic Roll Call and the dinner was perfect.
The only bad thing I can say about this whole trip is that it had to end. We plan on returning to Pride of America again for our 55th and 65th birthdays if not before!!!
