Allure of the Seas Cruise Review by chin14: Great trip on Allure

Great trip on Allure
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
We had a great time on the Allure.I had cruised before on Crown Princess so wasn't sure what to expect of the bigger ship, but I really loved it.
Embarkation: Port was busy but staff were friendly and efficient. We arrived about 1030 and were onboard with a roast beef sandwich by 1130.
Stateroom: Oceanside Balcony - we had 2 interconnecting cabins. Our stateroom attendant opened up the balcony to give us extra space. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of cabins, after hearing some complaints about this on CC. The beds were amazingly comfortable! Our stateroom attendant (Oneill) was great - friendly and super efficient.
Public areas: Clean, well thought out, really nice attention to detail with ornamental features/artwork. I really liked the neighbourhood concept and thought it all worked well together, probably more than I was expecting it to having just seen photographs.
Pools: Really nice. Solarium got quite hot at times but it was perfect for the overcast More days and beautifully landscaped. Outdoor pools were all small but the neighbourhood layout does make everything feel less crowded. Loads of hot tubs so these never got too crowded.
Casino: Huge, great selection. The slots were a little tight but that's to be expected when there is no competitor casino just down the hall I suppose! Lots of tables and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly in general.
Bars: Spent most time in pool bars, boardwalk bar, Central park bars. The service was great and there was a huge drinks selection. Pool service for drinks was also regular and speedy.
Restaurants: Loved Ritas, Johnny Rockets, Windjammer, Chops, hot dog stand. MDR was OK, but just OK. Solarium was a nice alternative to Windjammer for breakfast, and we had room service breakfast a lot too, which was excellent. Park Cafe roast beef sandwiches are deservedly famous.
Ports: Bahamas - picturesque but very busy because we were in port with 4 other ships due to itinerary change. St. Thomas - beautiful view from top of the hill but the main port was run down and dilapidated - a real disappointment and I wouldn't get off the ship here again. Huge potential given it's size and natural beauty. St. Maarten - definitely our favourite. Lovely beach near port, friendly people, lots of little bars and shops and the sellers were not too pushy.
We had a fantastic time on this holiday - we were so relaxed and the ship had everything we wanted. I would definitely do Allure/Oasis again, and would go back to Nassau and St. Maarten. I would recommend this trip to anyone.
One last thing - not including air fare, why are prices for UK travellers so much more exopensive than those purchasing their cruise in the USA? It makes no sense and is really frustrating! Less
