Reading reviews all summer I was very worried that I had chosen the wrong cruise for my group. Many of them were first time cruisers and as I have always spoke so glowingly about cruising,(4 on Splendour of The Seas )many of the reviews were rather negative. The reason I had chosen this one was because of the direct flight from Cork to Malaga which made a group trip more practical.
To go into every detail would take pages and pages so I will point out the negatives and highlight the positives.
The positives.Adventure is an amazing ship, with every kind of pass time you could wish for, fitness facilities are second to none and even walking on deck is a workout.I did look in the fitness center,( that is about as far as I got),but it looked impressive with plenty of space and availability. We had no problem with finding seats on deck, maybe not poolside but close enough. The pools were always busy but those who wished to take a dip or use the Jacuzzi found space for themselves.Groups More of people did tend to take over the pools but we fought our corner!!The poolside activities were dominated by one nationality but given there were 2700 of them versus 700 others it was to be expected.I do believe it should be flagged that this is the case by agents etc.Only that I had read reviews here, our cruise would have been a lot less successful as I was aware about eating early for every meal thus avoiding the big big rush.I was able to advise the group accordingly. The staff were as good as any other ship I have been on and many do go the extra mile for you.The ship is begining to look a tad old but still is a most beautiful and spectacular vessel. It really does have the WOW factor and all my group were blown away by the sheer size and glamour of it.We all enjoyed the shows some were much better than others, although I found the production shows to be brilliant and of a very high standard I would concur with an earlier reviewer about the plate spinner. The Ice show was for most of us,the highlight of the week, not a tumble and full of wonderful individual skating and production values.I personally was not so keen on the parades in The Royal Promenade as I found the crush of people to be too much. The cabins were fine, our group had a range, from inside to Junior suite and all were happy enough.I would not recommend the sharing of anything less than a junior suite, for 3 or more, space is at a premium as is to be expected but I found that we had just enough room in our suite, dearer, but well worth it.Food at times could have been warmer but we must remember where we are and the constraints on a kitchen and staff.
THe negatives have more to do with the off ship stuff. On arrival at Malaga we were greeted by a RC staff member and told where to go,but when we got there it became very confusing as no Rc staff were there to direct us to our bus.A small thing but with a group, so confusing, trying to keep everyone together.Check in was seamless and very very quick once we got to the port, full marks to that section,Getting on and off each day was also very efficient. We had pre booked our tours with another company and found them to be brilliant and much much cheaper than ships tours. The last and most annoying negative was at departure on Sat Morning. Some of the group had thrown away the cruise booklet thinking it was just the cruise ticket.I did tell them to mind it, as it was bus/airline ticketbut with all the excitement some did not listen. One of our cases went missing so we were a long time just getting out of collection point.I was very anxious that we all get on the one bus, given Malaga Airport is so busy.I explained to the Group Coordinator and she said it was fine they would have a list of names anyway. We meet with the most officious young man who insisted we pay 30 euro for each person without ticket. If we had to stay for another week that was not going to happen.Time was not on our side and any hope of a chance to do some duty free shopping was fading fast as we fought our corner. We had documentation saying transfer was paid for,no good, he had to have the pass.I asked to speak to supervisor, to be told(I am the supervisor)I was almost in tears as half our group was on a bus that was being filled with others.I know he was correct in looking for the tickets but given all the proof we had re payment, flexibility could have been used.It was a very disappointing end to what had been a wonderful holiday as we just about made our flight home minus all that lovely duty free goodies! All in all a brilliant week it is always up to each person to enjoy themselves, all the facilities are on board for an exciting adventure it is up to you to grab them, Less
