Our cabin and shower-room was very small compared to other cruise ships that we had been on. Wardrobe space adequate but only three tiny small draws to store our clothes (kept most of them in ther suitcase - under the bed). The over-bed cupboards were unusable as too short to reach them even when we stood on the bed. Shore excursions were O.K. but very little (if any) detailed information from the tour guide. We decided to explore the ports of call ourselves, after finding the shuttle service was very expensive there are bus and taxi services at each harbour.
Do please CHECK the menu in the Grand Cuvee Restaurant; If you are expecting a Fine Dinning Experience? then be very aware of what to expect. I suggest you eat at each port of call before your return to the ship. The menu description in the Grand Cuvee Restaurant will be very different to the finished dish presented to you. Our dishes were always bland, uninspiring and definitely not what was expected from a fine dinning experience. The vegetables invariably under cooked and cold; the mash potato excellent although extremely salty.
Steak was always good but the PEPPER SAUCE? was gravy with added ground black pepper??. Gravadlax? came without the usual mustard and dill sauce (when asked the assistant waiter presented us with a bottle of Colman's English mustard?). If you order the Roullarde it will consist of two tiny mini-sponge rolls containing hard cream. The Beef Wellington? (not individually wrapped with mushrooms in fine pastry) comes with chicken pate??.
The staff are very friendly and the cabin concierge extreemly helpfull espeacially when our cabin door-key had to be replaced. Almost every day it failed to open our door; which was very annoying because it meant we had to wait to use a lift or descend several flights of stairs to reach customer relations, then wait in a queue to be seen.
The daily event list was a good idea but it was probably never checked because we wasted an hour. Our friends went to one of the speciality restaurants leaving us in a lecture about the Venetian Republic only to find that the speaker talked about Greece and Alexander the Great instead?. When we inquired what had happened we were informed that "their must have been a printing mistake"? we were never given an apology or explanation so never went to any other activity. The theatre entertainment was mediocre but the special guests were enjoyable even with the lights constantly shining in your eyes as you tried to see the stage.
Overall the experience of cruising with Celebrity was something many people found disappointing including ourselves. The best entertainment each evening was meeting new people, having a drink in one of the many lounges and laughing about the days various events and the poor standard of the FINE DINNING food menu. We hope other people will read the various cruise critics before booking their cruise. We unfortunalely did not.
