Great Fun in the Baltics!
Destination: Baltic Sea
We were in cabin 9271 and we liked the location since it is aft and close to the stairs and elevator. It was easy to get to the buffet, dining room and theater. There was some movement of the ship at night, but it was never a problem and noise wasn't either. We really liked our balcony but it was cold sometimes sitting out. Bring a sweatshirt. We had a great steward who kept our room clean and was always More friendly to talk with. In fact, all of the workers on the Sun were especially friendly and helpful. They really made us feel welcomed.
Here is some quick advice:
Bring a rain jacket and travel umbrella. It rained in Tallin and one of the days in St. Petersburg, so it was great to have a rain jacket with a hood and an umbrella. We didn't let the rain stop us. Weather was cooler most of the time.
Skip the buffet and eat lunch in the Seven Seas. They have a great lunch menu with shrimp and salmon sandwich, cobb salad, fish and chips, strawberry shortcake, etc. Very relaxing too.
Make sure you wake up early (5am) to go out on the back deck as the ship sails into Stockholm. It was so beautiful to see all of the islands and then the sunrise too! It is about a three hour sail. Don't miss it. You can always sleep when you get home.
Walk or jog on deck 6. This deck goes all around the entire ship so it is a great walking or jogging path. Close to the water too which is fun. Nice views. Three and a half laps equals one mile.
Cabin has lots of storage, nice closet and big safe. Shower has shampoo but need to bring conditioner.
Go to the buffet on the back deck for breakfast. No line at this omelet station!
In Tallin, there is a store at the dock which has free wifi. We used that to check our email. Also, eat lunch at Grandma's Place (Vanaema Juures) if you want homemade, Estonian food. It was a fun place with great food (best herring.)
Easy to walk around this town.
In Helsinki, the Hop on, Hop off buses are right at the dock. Pay five euros more to include the canal cruise. Both the bus and canal cruise gave us a great tour of the city.
In Stockholm, take a quick taxi into town. We took the Hop on bus at the dock, but it took too long before it even got going. Time is so short in this port. Take a taxi to the old town and walk around or go right to the Vasa museum.
In St. Petersburg, take a tour with SPB tour company. Our family of seven had a private, two day, deluxe tour with guide Natalia. It was great! We were able to see so much and learn so much from her. Lines were long on the first day getting through the passport check. Try to be one of the first ones off the ship and you won't have to wait so long.
Berlin was a long bus ride but well worth it. Many historical sights to see so we went with SPB tours. Our traditional German lunch was one of the best parts.
Bring a book to read on the bus ride back.
Arrive in Copenhagen a few days early (or even more) to see this beautiful city and to relax. We stayed at the Hotel Bethel which is right on the Nyhavn canal. The rooms have views of this famous canal and you can walk everywhere from this location. We even rented a car and drove to the Frederiksborg castle and then to Odense. Easy to drive in Denmark.
We had a great cruise! We recommend this cruise and ship to everyone. Less
