Island Escape Cruise Review by OLDBATS: THE RYAN AIR OF CRUISING
THE RYAN AIR OF CRUISING
This is probably not a ship for those of you who like the finer aspects of the cruising experience. However it did seem to fit the bill for the vast number of passengers that we spoke to,most of them first time cruisers.
The vessel itself is less than glamorous ,and the cabins are in need of refurbishment (we were on 6 deck 6012),the bathrooms are in need of replacement as are the cabin windows ,which are covered in sealant and rust.
On embarkation you could spot those who had cruised before ,they were the people walking around looking shell shocked having just visited their cabins.
On a positive note the crew were friendly and diligent and,the service was always good.Interestingly we found this ship to be not too crowded in public areas (it was full on our cruise),give or take the odd shenanigans with sunbeds around the pool.If you are the type that really must have your toes on the pool edge each day you may need to get up early.
The food is basic More buffet done to a good standard, with open sittings in the restaurant, there is also a twenty four hour buffet at the pool end of the ship.We saw plenty of passengers in shorts and tee shirts in the restaurant in the evenings ,as well as couples and family's who had made a little more effort.
The tours were done well ,but you will need to think about the cycling tours as these are grueling,i would not advise children to undertake any of these as there is a lot of riding on duel carriageways. These are not tours for sight seeing one girl was sick with exertion going up hill, and our daughter was scared at major roundabouts in Italian cities.Think Tour de France not secret seven.
The entertainment was of a good standard for this type of vessel,Rock the Boat should get themselves a better agent, they are wasted on cruise ships.
This ship will become an all inclusive holiday for 2013 and you cannot help but wonder of it was decided it was cheaper to keep the passengers drunk ,than refurbish the cabins.
So if your looking for a value cruise with good ports ,reasonable food ,and a friendly atmosphere this is the one for you, just remember to pack the bleach. Less
