We sailed from Hull on 25th August 2012 with friends to Norway, on the Sunday most of the passengers went down with sea sickness my husband and 2 friends included who have never been sick before on ships, as you walked around the ship people where being sick everywhere, my husband could not get out of bed.
The Scenery in Norway is beautiful and we could not fault this at all, but found the trips very expensive, we did one to Stryne with a very knowledgeable guide and was very good, we also went on the railway which was not very organised with confusion over seats on the train and only 2x 15 min stops on the bus back down so not very good value for money.
On the Thursday night was formal night with everyone on their best attire when disaster struck. The ship rolled slightly one way and then the other causing some plates to fall onto the floor at the waiters stations then a big almighty roll, this time everything went, plates and glasses smashed to the floor, we ended up not sat at our table but across the room, passengers where on the floor injured including a lady very close to us who was seriously injured, The dining room staff where brilliant we cannot give enough praise, they where in shock like us but did everything they could to help people and clean up the disaster area. Our biggest disappointment was that the Captain never came on to apologise for what was a serious incident, we only got the Cruise director apologising for the inconvenience caused !! We feel that the ship is no longer fit for purpose and the Captain did not appear to be concerned about the safety and welfare of his passengers although all the staff in the dining room, our cabin steward and even the people cleaning the stairs always were polite and considerate and deserved a medal through out the cruise.
We found the port at Hull and Embarkation very easy and quick but unfortunately we docked back at around 7am but it took us until 11 am to be finally allowed off the ship, far too long !
Our cabin was comfortable but very basic, very noisy with engine noise and the whole ship vibrated constantly., and a long walk around the ship to get a cup of tea in the morning if you had not taken your own kettle like we did.
The food was good but sometimes limited on choice as some times not much variation in the menu but overall was very nice.
The entertainment on an evening was very good and some very professional shows by the crew, even Bob Carolgees still made us laugh!
The shore excursions, we took two where expensive for what you got although 'Beautiful Stryne' was amazing and a fantastic trip.
Bergan was a lovely place and we wandered round ourselves, but very expensive to buy gifts, drinks etc.
Overall Norway was a beautiful country but we chose the wrong ship which ruined our holiday as this experience will stay with us.
