Great River Experience

Sail Date: August 2012
Destination: Europe - River Cruise
Embarkation: Amsterdam

This was our first time on AMA Waterways and we came away convinced we'll sail with them again. The Amacello was well appointed; the rooms were very clean and comfortable with the French balconies a plus; staff was friendly, helpful and very service oriented. Our cabin stewardess had an artistic surprise waiting every evening when she did the turn down service.

Food was generous, tasty and often themed to the city we were visiting. The dining room staff and bar staff made the single seating dinners run like clockwork. Wine was often local, included in our plan and good to moderate quality.

Our Cruise Director, Rachel, was a dynamo and problem solver. She orchestrated multiple excursions daily and dealt with lock congestion and delays with humor and logistical skill. Tours were convenient, interesting and accessible to where we docked daily. Guides had a solid working relationship with the ship's staff and things always went smoothly.

Entertainment was simple More with local musicians or singers performing most nights. The audience was engaged, but performances were much simpler than on large cruise liners. It felt a lot like a cabaret most evenings.

The ship's officers and crew were very professional, friendly, and informative.

It's important NOT to compare a river boat with an ocean liner cruise. They are two different kinds of sailing. Overall, this river boat sailing experience was great value for the money. Less

Cabin review: AmaCello 215

Small but comfortable, especially with French balcony. Limited drawer space. Closet and shelves were similar to a good hotel room. Bath had a terrific shower and good storage.
