This was an interesting River cruise on the Danube taking us to Romania, The black sea (At Constanta) - Bulgaria, Through the Impressive Gorge at The Iron gates - then into Belgrade, then Croatia, where we had an interesting meal at the Home of a family in a small village. We then travelled to parts of Hungary - finishing in Budapest and finally the beautiful city of Vienna, where we stayed at The Intercontinental Hotel right opposite the Park and close to City - and the final night featured a wonderful concert of Strauss and Mozart classics.
The staff were wonderful and friendly - particularly the cruise Director and the Captain was a lovely down to earth man.
All the ocean cruises I have been on I would rate the food 8+ out of 10.
The one river cruise we did with Uniworld I would rate the food at 10 out of 10.
We assumed being a river cruise - this would be the same - but we could only give it at best 4 out of 10 - Some meals the meat and vegetables were inedible - Mystery soups were like dishwater - many passengers had diahorea for several days - thereby missing some meals and excursions ruining the value for money.
Avalon Management needs to seriously look at this aspect of either procurement or preparation of food to make this cruise successful.
