British Isles cruise
Let me first start out by saying, we had sailed on Princess 2 times more than 15 years ago, and while we have been sailing on RCCL in the early years with our kids, and as of late Celebrity with friends, I will not be biased.
I think over the years Princess has had by far the best choices of all the cruise lines. So we booked this when Celebrity was not ever going to do this one...NEVER say NEVER, they are doing the British Isles next year.
We booked this cruise in August because of the Tattoo (normally we are in Europe each year and avoid the summer)but the Tattoo is in August. WE arrived a day early and went straight to Southampton, we did London after the cruise,so as to avoid the Olympic mess. We were in a suite, so we boarded QUICKLY.No welcome to Princess picture was taken. This was strange, since for the next 13 days you are pestered to take photos. We got straight into the suite, a Jr suite which was a GREAT size, but a tiny bathroom for a suite.. There are no More q-tips, cotton balls, robes, flowers...things I am used to with Celebrity.
This ship was not meant to be in cold, rainy weather. It was built for the Caribbean and should stay there. We had some days it was okay to be outside, but if they had a covered pool, many more could have been suedo outside..Movies under the stars GREAT concept, except on this ship with this destination, To cold. The ship is really beautiful, lots of public space, yes some areas are tired, but it is in good shape.Biggest complaint about the space is the buffet areas DISASTER.....Needs to be open, it is too confined.
Food is very subjective, so I will only say that food in Dining rooms is good, not great, just good. Service and food in Crown grill is fabulous...Sabatinis service and food not as good as Crown. Main Dining room all but 1 nite service was GREAT...There system with anytime dining is horrible, not working, they need to re-think it. Pizza, burgers, international cafe good. Coffee is WAY better than Celebrity....but biggest complaint is no matter where I had OJ and milk...it was ALWAYS warm..buffet and room service....
Half the staff were GREAT, cruise directors staff fabulous...saw cruise director twice...Some staff very friendly, some NOT at ALL....
Did not do Princess excursions...they are way overpriced, and we plan our own...
The ports were nice, we were shorted time in Dublin because we spent the night in Wales (hard choice on Captains part, but I appreciate the safety issue. The lines with the tenders were a PROBLEM.....Our first experience was Guernsey..We came back 1 hour prior to the last tender and there was a line as wide as the island. We were in line 1 1/2 hours in the blazing sun...worse it could have been rain....We found out a day later the crew was blaming the passengers for all coming back at the same time....UGG I waited in more lines on this ship than in Disneyworld. The staff was uncertain in each port when we needed to be back on the ship. VERY UNORGANIZED!!!!
We saw beautiful places and met some nice people each nite at dinner..Overall we had a great trip...Picky things bothered me, but on a large scale the trip was great...Will I pick Princess again...probably not..How can you run out of $$$on a cruiseship when you have been in the British Isles, you shouldn't run out of British pounds....
Just one more bit of info...The TATTOO should be on EVERYONES bucket list...
