After booking our first cruise, we read some of the reviews and wondered if we had done the right thing.
Embarkation was due to start at 2.30pm and I was dreading it in-case it was just one big hassle, well, it couldn't have been further from hassle..
Our luggage was taken from us at the port, we checked in,went through customs and were on the ship all within 40 minutes, seamlessly.
Our cabin was amazing! Really roomy and very comfortable and we even had a bath.
The ship was absolutely spotless, in fact there is permanently stripes on the carpets in the stairs as they get hoovered all the time. For there being 3500 guests on board, the cleanliness of all areas is something to behold.
We were assigned to the Villa Verde restaurant and it was a lovely decorated room that made it feel very grand but at the same time comfortable to be in. The whole week, the choice of food and the quality of the food was excellent. We had our evening meal in the restaurant, but chose to have our breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks in either the Bora Bora or Pago Pago cafeteria. At breakfast it was a wee bit busy, but we sussed it out that there was always tables at the back of the ship in the Pago Pago cafeteria. The food in these to cafeteria's was excellent and very plentiful with loads of choices.
We found most of the staff to be very very helpful with the exception of a couple who seemed to be a bit "crabbit", also we seemed to be in the minority of people who actually spoke to and had a wee bit banter with all levels of staff whereas we noticed not a lot of other guests.
Initially we intended to get the 7 euro per person per day gratuity taken off or bill, which you can do,as we wanted to tip the people of our choice, but on seeing the service that all staff gave, we left it on as it is well deserved as the staff from the porters to the entertainment staff work very very hard.
We booked a drinks package and it was well well worth it so it is very worthwhile looking at the packages available and choosing one to suit.
All in all we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend MSC.
The downside of our cruise was that is was mostly Europeans on the ship so there is not much interaction with fellow passengers and I was totally shocked with the ignorant attitudes of most of the other passengers from children to older adults. On many occasions I thought I had Harry Potter's invisibility cloak on, as they just barged passed you and stood right in front of you and it expected you to move round about them.
We would definitely go on another MSC cruise.
