Disney Wonder - July 2012 - Alaskan Adventure
Having been on five different cruise on Carnival and NCL my expectation of Disney were very high. I am happy to say - I was NOT let down. After day three my wife and I looked at each other and agreed this was one of the best cruises we had been on. On previous cruises we could find something to complain about - not on the DISNEY WONDER. We traveled with 17 family members, ages 4 - 75. And everyone without exception said how much they enjoyed the ship, the food, the port of call and of course the amazing staff.
TRANSPORTATION - We flew into Seattle from Southern CA. We used the transportation company that the hotel recommended and it worked out great. Since their were 17 of us, we had a large group, we reserved two of their vans. They took us from the airport to the hotel. Then on the day of the cruise we had two vans pick us up at the hotel and take us to the Pier. Then following the curise we had the same company send two vans to the Pier and take us back to SeaTac. More Everything worked out great with the transportation.
HOTEL - We began our adventure to Alaska, and this was our second cruise there (first on Disney), by arriving a couple of days early to look around Seattle. We stayed at the Hampton Inn-Downtown Seattle. It is in a great location. We walked to the Space Needle. Took the monorail to downtown area and walked around PIKE PLACE. You have to visit TELLOW LEAF CUPCAKES if you ever find yourself in the area. The breakfast at the Hotel was very good and the rooms were clean and comfortable.
SHIP INFO - We were booked on the DISNEY WONDER. It is not their newest ship, nor is it their biggest ship. But having said that, we found it very clean and well maintained. We did a ART OF THE THEME tour and found it very informative. They told you about the different art work, different carpeting and all the different DISNEY artifacts on the ship. Again this was very INFORMATIVE and well worth the time.
ACTIVITIES - Since DISNEY owns a major motion picture company they have a theater on board that shows first run films. BRAVE had just been released shortly before the cruise and we were able to watch it for FREE on board the ship. As well as CARS 2, AVENGERS, JOHN CARTER..etc.
KIDS CLUB (Oceaneers Club) - The kids club was open from 7:00am - 12:00midnight daily. Our 4 year old LOVED it. There were lots of activities going on through out the day for them. As well as the pool. We were in Alaska in July so it was not to warm, but put children around a pool and they will definitely want to jump in. Especially with a slide! The kids were kept busy, we did not see any children running the halls or playing elevator tag, something we experienced on Carnival.
ROOM STEWARD - Our room steward was excellent and very attentive to whatever we needed.
DINING ROOM STAFF - The dining room staff was on top of every detail. They learned our names and what we liked to drink. After the first day, every time we entered the dining room our four year old had his favorite drink waiting for him. They knew to feed the children first and keep them entertained so not to bother the other passengers. DISNEY has a policy where you eat in a different restaurant each night and your wait staff rotates with you. This is a great idea. It was fun to see our same servers each night.
ENTERTAINMENT - Whether it was the live stage show, movies or entertainment in the lobby/bars there was something for everyone in our group.
PHONES - Each stateroom on DISNEY comes with 2 wave phones. These are cordless phones that work anywhere on the ship. They even work on the dock at some of the ports, BUT keep in mind if you lose it - THEY CHARGE YOU. No, we did not lose it, but we were very careful with it. The phone not only call, but also have the ability to text - YEAH!!
SUMMARY - Hands down if you can afford the cost, and they do tend to run on the high end, I would not hesitate to re-book another cruise on DISNEY. With or without children it was a very enjoyable cruise and Alaska is beyond BEAUTIFUL! We are consdiering another trip there next summer. Less
