Sail Date: Aug 2012
Cabin: Grand Suite with Balcony

This was our first sailing on the Allure. We had a Grand Suite on Deck 10. The crew and staff were excellent, especially considering the circumstances. We could not get to St. Thomas or St. Martin because of Isaac. We went to Jamaica and Cozumel instead. Stayed at both for about 12 very long hours. The captain tried to get back a day early (Saturday) to get ahead of the storm but was forced to turn around. We learned that we would be in port on Tuesday morning. They offered free internet and phone at that point. It was completely useless. The communication system was totally inadequate for the volume of calls. Many people resorted to cell phones at an astronomical cost per minute, mostly spent "on hold". The conciege finally opened private lines for suite guests but even then the connections were very slow and the lines to use them were long.

As I mentioned, the crew and staff were great. I have 2 suggestions. 1) Do a major upgrade of the communication system. 2) Captain Johnny and the cruise director are annoying. The key message was, "You get 2 free days!" It should have been - we know you are disappointed that you missed your ports and excursions and now you cant get through to your loved ones... and here is what we learned and what we are going to do. That said this is an amazing ship and an amazing crew and staff.
