Pacific Dawn Cruise Review by skier_cruiser: Downmarket Cruising
Just back from the Week Fantastique 7 day cruise out of Brisbane .I have done this same cruise 4 years ago on the Pacific Sun and cant believe the contrast .To say P&O have gone down market would be an understatement.
What was good ? Wont take long
We got an upgrade from inside to outside
The cabin steward ,Christian was excelent
A beer was $5.50 which compared to other cruise lines is not too bad
What was bad ? Lets set the Scene .Take as many people as possible by cramming them 4 to a cabin ,reduce your costs by minimising the crew size and charge for just about everything .So 2000 people and 600 crew serving .Save further by limiting the hours the bars are open . The waiters all looked over worked and tired . Dont dare ask for anything out of the ordinary they just didnt/wouldnt do it .If you like lining up for everything this was the cruise for you .The Bar ,the Buffet ,the reception ,the kiosks ,the shops .You get the picture .I resorted to leaving the More dining room to get my own beer rather than wait to be served . The staff largly avoided eye contact in case you asked for something .
The Promanade deck should be renamed because so much was closed off all the time you couldnt walk it .Too many people on board equals not enough deck chairs or deck lounges .They may as well scrap the formal nights because 90% of the people didnt bother and dress codes were not enforced .It is pretty obvious that Carnaval with more ships now in Australia have taken the decision to take P&O down market by advertising low quad prices and getting the lower end of the market who would normally consider a cruise to expensive to take their first cruise . Carnaval probably knows I wont do P&O again but that I will do Princess Less
