We are a Dutch family and we cruised with a few different cruise lines. This was our first Celebrity Cruise experience. We did the 14 day roundtrip Southampton to the Baltics, incl. St. Petersburg.
The first observation was that Celebrity Eclipse was a very modern ship. The design of the ships is great and the furniture is very special. The average age is much lower than on Holland America Line. Contrary to Holland America, the atmosphere in the public areas is very cosy, until the middle of the night.
Service and food were really great, but the quality of the food was not better than on Royal Caribbean ships, which are 4 star ships, while Celebrity is 5 star. The Qsine restaurant was expensive (35 dollar extra charge), but it was worth it. It was a very unique experience.
The Hot Glass Show was a bit boring and took too long. Fortunately, the Hot Glass Show has been replaced by a BBQ restaurant on the newest Celebrity ships. The assortment in the shops was the same during the entire cruise. It would be better if the assortment changes every few days.
Overall we were more than satisfied. Celebrity was a lot better than Holland America, mainly because the atmosphere on Celebrity is nicer than on HAL.
