Really great experience

Sail Date: July 2011
Destination: Baltic Sea
Embarkation: Southampton

We are a Dutch family and we cruised with a few different cruise lines. This was our first Celebrity Cruise experience. We did the 14 day roundtrip Southampton to the Baltics, incl. St. Petersburg.

The first observation was that Celebrity Eclipse was a very modern ship. The design of the ships is great and the furniture is very special. The average age is much lower than on Holland America Line. Contrary to Holland America, the atmosphere in the public areas is very cosy, until the middle of the night.

Service and food were really great, but the quality of the food was not better than on Royal Caribbean ships, which are 4 star ships, while Celebrity is 5 star. The Qsine restaurant was expensive (35 dollar extra charge), but it was worth it. It was a very unique experience.

The Hot Glass Show was a bit boring and took too long. Fortunately, the Hot Glass Show has been replaced by a BBQ restaurant on the newest Celebrity ships. The assortment in the shops was the More same during the entire cruise. It would be better if the assortment changes every few days.

Overall we were more than satisfied. Celebrity was a lot better than Holland America, mainly because the atmosphere on Celebrity is nicer than on HAL. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Really nice port. Interesting historical buildings. But do not go on Sunday, since almost all shops are closed at that day.

We expected Warnemunde just to be an industrial port. We were positively surprised when going ashore. It was a really nice cosy town with live music, nice shops and a great beach.

The harbour area looks very ugly. Southampton is known as a classic cruiseport, but the harbour area is just an industrial area. Terminals are old-fashioned.

The best port of call we have ever been. Many interesting things too see. Peterhof and Catherine's palace were very very special. Waiting times in the Hermitage were long and it was crowded inside.
