A good cruise but not a great one
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
First let me say what was excellent, the ship is sleek and new and clean and looks amazing. Our cabin steward and his helper were first class and nothing was too much trouble.
5 stars also go to the bar staff at the martini bar and the molecular bar and also to the cafe bacio staff who always produced a superb latte.
we found the food in the MDR to be very good and also had 2 excellent meals in the Tuscan Grille and Muranos.
However....the service in the MDR was painfully slow at times. 90-100 mins to have dinner and that was often leaving out a course and not having coffee. We liked being on select dining but felt priority was given to those eating downstairs. We felt compelled to complain one night after being taken downstairs to eat at a half laid table and at one point that More night some of our party had finished main course, others were waiting for salads, the children's drinks had been forgotten, we were not offered any water and after what seemed like hours we got several apologies from several head waiters. However we still had the wine waiter hovering to remind us we needed to pay for the one glass of wine we had ordered. Don't know how they had the nerve to charge us after the whole debacle.
The entertainment was terrible. Boring comes to mind. The Celebrity singers and dancers and the band were flat, out of tune and timing, and had no chemistry. The 4 guys from the acapella were also dreadful. Oh for the heavenly tones of "full tilt" or "on point". it seems they were thrown together the week before and we were watching rehearsals.
One of our main concerns were fellow passengers. The ship was full of rude obnoxious folk who thought it their right to commandeer sunbeds by the dozen, to scream obscenities at guest relations about not paying tips and to behave like hooligans in the dining room. Most days the pool deck resembled a trailer park with all the towels tied around the sail supports to look like tents. If this is the sort of market that Celebrity is appealing to then its time to switch cruise lines. On one occasion i actually asked a head waiter to intervene when one of his staff in the oceanview cafe was being treated appallingly by one the rudest women i have ever encountered. i told him to go and support his staff member and tell the women she couldn't speak to his staff like she was.
As for next year....we are keeping our options open Less
