We're seniors who wanted a relaxing yet interesting cruise experience. This was our 5th cruise, our second on HAL. We actually booked two 7-day cruises, back-to-back, which worked out fine, as we'd done the Alaskan land tour previously.

The Zaandam was very nice, well-maintained and clean. It was laid out almost the same as the other HAL ship we were on, so we had no learning curve. We had an ocean-view room on the second level near the forward elevators and stairs. The location was quiet and convenient. The room was spacious and clean with more than enough storage for us.

The food was uneven, but okay generally. We upgraded to the Pinnacle Grill on 2 occasions and were very impressed with the quality of the food and the high level of personal service. The reservation policy for the open seating in the main dining room was confusing and administered inconsistently by the staff. But otherwise the staff were pleasant, courteous and helpful.
