Wow - Great time on Carnival Glory

Sail Date: August 2012
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

This was our second family cruise (3 adults and 2 teens, 1 tween). Our first was to Bermuda on the Celebrity Summit (2011). We had a great time in Bermuda and the food and service on the Summit was outstanding so we felt like probably this would be less on a Carnival Cruise based on reading the reviews. Not so many family oriented activities on the Summit but the shows were very nice for a family. Pools not so good. Overall we had a great time and were eager to cruise again but had a limited time frame. That was when we found the Carnival Glory Cruise to Canada with one stop in Saint John, NB.

Arrival by car to Manhattan terminal was no problem, around 12:00pm. You can park and go right into the terminal and get into the check in line. Check in moved slowly but overall was ok. We were having lunch by 1:30. It was lovely to stroll around and see New York City from the ship.

Food Service - The buffets did get crowded and move slowly, not sure why and the More lines for Sushi were usually 1/2 hour wait time and fish and chip shop, disorganized and 15 min wait. Pizza got mixed review in our group some liked, some not. Dinner was very nice. The food was good, not the same caliber as Celebrity Summit but still very good. Service was attentive on all levels( Waiter, bread server, drink server, dessert). The dancing and singing waiters make it a fun time.

Shore Excursion - We took a Carnival booked tour to St. Martins & The Bay of Fundy. Our tour guide, Lorraine, was excellent. We hardly noticed the 50 min. ride to our destination as she gave us history, personal relevant stories, answered questions, showed artifacts and pictures. This was a 2 Hr 45min. tour. We all enjoyed the sight of the covered bridges and cave and rocky coast line.

Ship Activities - Fun! Daytime activities included fun trivia, swimming pool contests, water slide, spa (I had a very nice massage), deck chair with book or nap or people watching, casino, etc.....

Pools and hot tubs were crowded, Hot tubs - not so good with many children trying to actually swim in the hot tub rather than pool. Pools just cold but many people did not seem bothered!

Shows - Loved the comedians. We saw the family friendly and adult shows and everyone in the lounge loved them. Stage shows - very good singing and dancing but very repetitive and got to be a little boring.

Game shows led by the Asst. Cruise director(Kim) were good. The volunteers were always a hoot.

Stateroom - More roomy than the one on Celebrity Summit. Had 3 per room. Beds with special linens were very comfortable.

Self Assist disembarkation - Unbelievable. We were off the ship by 8:00 am and out of NYC by 8:45. Very organized and we loved not feeling crowded or herded so very relaxing and not really any waiting(20 min. in lounge)

Overall impression - Great family fun. Nothing is perfect and with 4 children you always encounter ups and downs. Everyone on the ship seemed to be having fun and that is what I want to be around on my vacation! Less
