Thomson Spirit

Sail Date: July 2012
Destination: Baltic & Northern Europe
Embarkation: Newcastle (England)

Been back Three weeks, from our three week holiday in the Baltic and the Norwegian Fjords. Had a fantastic time, this was our fifth cruise with Thomson, our first on Spirit. We knew what to expect as we had cruised on the Thomson Celebration the year before, Spirits sister ship. The ships are the smallest of the Thomson fleet. Thomson Spirit had a friendly and helpful crew, who could not do enough for you. The crew worked hard keeping the ship clean and tidy throughout the day and night. The ships are old and tied looking, but are a comfortably size to navigate around.
The food on board was fantastic. In the Compass Rose waiter service restaurant, staff were very good and attentive, especially as I am on a Gluten Free diet. The Lido restaurant was as equally good self service, food was always hot and fresh and serving though out the day and night.
The bars on board were always very busy, but their were plenty of staff to serve you your drinks. All bars had their own More entertainment, may it be pianists, duet or trio their was plenty going on around the ship. Our favorite being the Horizon bar on the top deck and its sea views.
The shows we had seen on other Thomson ships, with one or two new ones were very good, the show team and Richard Grey cruise director were excellent. We had a guest comedian once a week. The crew on board put on a tallent show every week, they have some very talented crew members. We will definalty go aboard the Thomson Spirit again can't wait! Less

Cabin review: Thomson Spirit 090

The cabin was clean, adequate for our needs. Only thing that was missing was a comfortable seat to sit on. The view from our window was a total obstructed by life boat, but we knew this on booking. we wanted a window rather than having inside or port hole on a lower level. The location was next to the gym, which you could only hear a low sound of music and the running machine during the day, quite at night. The bathroom was tied looking, shower with curtain, sink and toilet. The cabin had plenty of cupboard space and a safe which you paid about 25 pounds for 2 weeks.

Port and Shore Excursions

Plenty to see on your own, free shuttle bus from port not easy walking distance. Fish Market, boat trips plenty bars and restaurants

Our stop in Riga was a short stay, you can walk 15 minutes from the port or get a free shuttle bus. The town was quite upon our arrival, but slowly becoming alive before lunch time. You can easily walk around Riga on you own.

Very busy city, tender to shore runs every 20 Min's to centre. plenty of resurants and bars, very exsensive 10 euro's for a fridge magnet. 12 euro's for two small beers.

The Port is about 20 minute walk or catch a free shuttle bus to the centre of Tallinn. A easy place to do on your own, plenty of bars and restaurant's. The town as a market in the centre square and plenty of historical interest.
