After a 13 hour flight from New Zealand , we arrived in Vancouver and checked into the Century 21 Plaza and Spa , very surprised to be offered a complimentary upgrade to the 26th floor and an executive suite--accepted with pleasure !
Easy commute next morning to the terminal and then the 2 hour process began-- kind of expected that because we were heading into American territory and us 'outsiders' get quite a 'grilling' !!
Once on board we found our room -- felt a little claustraphobic at first , but soon got over that, after we went navigating the ship ( with our map )-- maybe a GPS would have been handy , as we were forever taking the wrong way !!
We felt the room was very clean and having 2 wardrobes was great while the colour scheme is not to every ones liking , wasnt that unbearable -- the bathroom and shower was in top condition - was surprised at the pressure the shower had - better than some motels we had stayed at in the past .
We had 3 meals at the main dining room where we 'open seated ' -- the meals , service and fellow diners were excellent. Rest of the cruise we ate at the Lido -- was busy at times , but always found a seat ,as people came and left -- was impressed with the selection of food and once again the staff there were excellent, very friendly and always willing to have a chat.Surprised at a previous comment about staff eating at the same time -- we never ever came across this.
Spent many evenings on the Crows nest deck where we enjoyed the wonderful Gary Lithgow -- he has the most amazing voice and was beautiful to listen to.
We went to many shows and seminars and honestly , we loved them all , even the Trivia !!
We had booked out day excursions prior to the cruise and we enjoyed those too -- At Juneau we did the cycle to the Glacier and Brewery visit-- the cycle is a very easy ride ..
Skagway , went to the Jewell Gardens , where we sampled tomato soup , scones and Rhubard bars ,made with ingredients from this beautiful organic garden-- In the afternoon we went on the Brothel and Ghost tour of the town -- that was a real highlight , the young lady who was our guide was great , there is so much history in this town --
In Ketchikan , my hubby went on the Crab feast tour and he was in 7TH heaven -- he ate so may crabs , he didnt want any dinner that night !!I went on the Bear tour -- was a little disappointed here , as we had about a 2 hr lecture on rain forests and 2 minutes looking for the bears !! -- when we finally found the bears , we had to hurry as time was running out !! While I do appreciate the rain forest and the importance -- it was the Bears I had come to see.
We thought the cruise was fantastic -- all the staff we came across ,whether they were in the lounge , dining room, cabin area or just cleaning the furniture -- all very friendly and spoke to us --
On the down side -- disappointed the Coffee Lata machine was out of action for about 3 days ,as it was the only one on board.
The Gym had quite a lot of broken equipment -- this was not a good look -- also the bikes had no seats -- dont know what this was all about !!!
If you are going for a massage -- BEWARE - mention what you want -- I suffered for 5 days !! after a session on my knotted shoulders !!
We loved getting back to our cabin at night to find an animal made out of Towells by the cabin crew -- that was so cool.
I was apprehensive about cruising , never done anything like this before , as I dont really like boats -- However hubby and I both loved the cruise experience and would reccommend it -- the scenery and glaciers truely unbelievable --was just magic , watching the Whales
