We spent a week in Nice and then flew to Rome where we stayed 2 nights at the Lancelot Hotel. Its 5 mins walk to the Colosseum and was great. Large room and free wifi and the staff were very helpful. We did our own sightseeing in Rome and it was a full hot day walking round the sights. Vatican City was first and I recommend booking online as the queues were enormous even at 8am.
The Lancelot hotel organised a driver to take us to the port the next day and we got our luggage taken off us within 3 mins of being out of the car. Within another 5 mins we were checked in and Ryan our Concierge escorted us onto the amazing ship and straight up into the Haven. We loved our room. It was a 2 bedroom courtyard villa with a balcony. Everything was amazing especially the 3 headed shower with floor to ceiling window from the 17th floor. The 2 person bath next door was great too also with floor to ceiling window. The kids had bunks and their own bathroom. Our Butler Jonathon gave us a private tour of the Haven which included, pool, spa, gym, epic grill, epic restaurant and epic lounge area. It had 2 sunbathing areas and also private access to the posh (18 and over) deck on floor 19.
We watched 3 shows, The blue Man, Legends and the Cirque show. All 3 were amazing. Its worth paying more for the cirque show to see all the show up close. Ryan escorted us to all the shows personally and we got front row seats at everything before the shows opened to the rest of the passengers.
We stayed on board at Cannes and Marseille to make the most of the ship with less passengers on. We loved the 3 water slides and did these over and over again. We always got deck chairs but it was full and people were saving seats and going off for hours which is so rude. We didn't attempt to go on the slides on our day at sea though.
We went bowling twice and had a great time, we enjoyed playing darts, pool and air hockey also. We never had to wait for these either and considering it was a full cruise it was impressive.
We toured all over the ship and were impressed by everything. Its first class all the way.
We mostly ate at the Epic restaurant and grill. We did try cagneys steakhouse and got a great table right at the back of the ship with the coolest view. The service and food was great. We ate at the Italian place twice and loved the window tables, food and service.
We did our own excursion with "all around Italy" the company were fantastic our driver Franchesco in Florence was fab and our driver Fabriseco in Naples was amazing. They were really informative, fun and got us back to the ship in plenty of time. Nothing was to much trouble and we loved our two days with them. each tour cost 480 euro.
I would recommend doing a tour in Rome, Florence and Naples. The rest you can easily see on your own. We were slightly disappointed in Barcelona because it was a Sunday and everything was shut. The sights was amazing though.
Disembarking was very easy. We walked straight off with no queues and picked up our bags that were collected at 10pm the night before and boarded the NCL bus to Rome airport.
We really had the best time of our lives and I think the Haven was worth every cent, you felt so special and well looked after. We are looking to book another Epic cruise and soon if I have my way.
