Loved our 1st DCL Cruise

Sail Date: April 2012
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

We booked cruise & airfare through DCL. Used the Magical Express from airport to Port Canaveral. Ease of travel using Disney out of Port Canaveral couldn't have been better - this was a first time traveling with our 23 month old & it was a breeze from check in at the airport until arrival at the ship.

We sailed 4/20/12 on a 5 night Bahamas cruise - We did miss the Key West stop due to high winds, but love the extra at sea day.

I was a little worried that there wouldn't be enough for my daughter to do since she was not old enough for the Kid's club activities and we didn't want to use the nursery. But I didn't have a think to worry about. From the time we woke up to the time we went to sleep there were more than enough things to see & do for all of us.

Her favorites were going to the daily open house in the Oceaneer Club & the Lab - there were tons of counselors there to help lead her in age appropriate activities & to be honest many times she was the only More child there during the open house time - so Princess Ava ruled the kingdom & everyone in it.

We did the splash area as she was still potty training at the time, but she wasn't crazy about getting her head wet at the time. The characters scared her close up, but she loved watching them while others met them. At the end of the cruise she did finally give Minnie & Dale kisses on the nose and everyone got "high fives".

The cabin was incredible size based on previous cruise on Carnival & NCL. The food was ok- nothing spectacular but it was hot & plentiful. The desserts were not good - but good that they were easy to skip! :)

We booked late so had late dinner seating, ended up using the a la carte restaurant - it is closed the last night which made dinner that night difficult as the only choice for use was 8:15 in the dining room or fast food on the pool deck.

Breakfast the disembarkation day is only available in the main dining room & we much preferred the breakfast buffet. Buffet hours did seem to be much more limited on DCL, but we also were sailing for the first time with one that required a long afternoon nap - so could have been our hours were the ones limited.

We loved so much we are sailing again 8 nights in April 2013! Just before she turns 3, and still not old enough for the kid's club....but we know she will have a great time as she now loves water & is potty trained! Less
