Awesome cruise for 6 girls on the Ecstacy!
We are 6 girls, aged 20-29. I am 29 and have a DH & Ds4 who were on a camping trip while I cruised with the girls! We had 2 cabins, Oceanview R127 & R139 about 3 doors down from each other.
Embarkation: An absolute breeze. We got there about 11:30AM and 10 minutes later were walking on the ship. No lines whatsoever.
Rooms: Larger than we thought, in great shape, comfortable beds. Loved the large window. We never met our room steward but the rooms were kept immaculate the whole trip. We had 3 girls in each room and had plenty of room for all of our clothes (and there were lots, in our cabin at least!), hair products, shower stuff, etc.
Ship: Was in great shape. It was a beautiful ship, the decor was fun, never seemed too crowded. Ive read reports that the ship is older and has rough spots, but we werent out to find them. We were there to have a blast, and thats what we did!
Lido Dining: Was good. Im not into greasy food so didnt eat any of the grilled More items but my friends did and enjoyed them. Pizza is not very good, but eatable (and we are from NY and know good pizza!). Salad bar was good and mongolian wok was EXCELLENT!!! Best option up there but expect a LONG wait. But its worth it. I never felt like eating much breakfast (never do really) so mainly stuck to cereal and fruit but my friends enjoyed all the breakfast options. We never had a hard time finding a table and the area was kept very clean - as soon as people got up the staff was cleaning the tables.
MDR: We did late dining, in the WindSong Dining Room. We had a table for us 6, which at first we were a tad disappointed because we wanted to meet others and would have liked a 10, but it was fine. We had Ronald as our waiter who was AWESOME!!!! He did magic tricks for us, entertained us, and took such great care of us. We looked forward to dinner every night, it was truly such a great experience. The food was GREAT. We are mostly all seafood lovers, in our glory with all the choices. We ordered a lot of food every night and passed it around and shared. Definitely rate the dining a Perfect 10!!!!
Pool Deck/Lounge Chairs- Despite reading reports on hogged chairs and not able to get chairs on deck, we never had a hard time. We never wanted to sit RIGHT by the pool though, we preferred to be a deck above or the top deck by the mini golf. On Sea Day, we got 6 chairs together up top by the mini golf and many chairs around us remained empty all day.
The Pool/Waterslide - there is only one pool and it is small but served its purpose for us. We mainly sunbathe and then jump in here and there to cool off. It was never overcrowded. We didnt use the hot tubs. 4 of us tried the waterslide, because we felt we had to LOL. It is probably a big thrill for kids, but it was slow and each of us got stuck partway down and had to row our way down. LOL. Once was enough.
Drinks - expensive, but great!!! We looked forward to finding out the drink of the day every day.
Other guests - were awesome! We met some awesome people onboard and are already keeping in touch with some. We did not encounter any rudeness at all. Maybe we werent looking for it, but everyone we met was wonderful. We also did not encounter any misbehaved children Id read reports of. Again, we probably werent paying attention, but other than the occasional overtired crying child, we did not see any unruly children or craziness.
Entertainment - heres where they lack. The dance shows were mediocre at best. WE are all professional dancers/dance teachers so I guess are most critical. To the untrained eye, the dance shows may have been enjoyable but for us, EHHHH. The comedian we watched was funny, and Quest was a good time. The dance club was fun and the deck party was great. 5 girls entered a dance they had performed before in the talent show and got endless complements for the rest of the cruise (well they are pro dancers!) and won trophies and champagne. It was an awesome night and a lot of fun!
My ONLY real complaint - the picture system. There is no organization to it, the pictures the photographer takes throughout the week are all around Deck 9 on racks so we have to round them all up, to look at them. Then, there is no discount for buying several pictures, or packages, nor is there an option to purchase all of your pics on a disc. 2 of the girls in our group cruised RCL in March and they got all their pics on a disc for $250, which we could have split and been happy. Nope, that is not an option they wanted $20 a picture with no discount to buy several.
Freeport - Our Dolphin Swim got cancelled (and not before we went we took the bus to Unexso and were waiting for our boat when a storm rolled in). We were pretty depressed because it was the most looked forward to part of our trip.
Nassau - Since Dolphin swim in Freeport was cancelled we managed to get the Atlantis Dophin swim for Nassau. It was fun, though from the description I know the Freeport one looked like a much better experience, but at least we got to do it. Atlantis is beautiful.
Half Moon Cay - was beautiful, 3 of us did Horseback Riding By Land And Sea which was a lot of fun and a cool experience. The beach and water are great.
Spa - 2 of us got the head to toe special on the first day, which was very relaxing and we thought it was worth it.
I believe a cruise is what you make of it, and we could have had fun anywhere -and we totally had the best week ever! This was my first cruise and now want to cruise other ships also, I would do another Carnival if the dates/itinerary are what Im looking for, but Im also open to trying RCL and if it was gonna be a family trip, Disney Cruise Line. But we had an awesome time and I cant wait to do it again!!!! Less
