The previous reviews pretty much described the over-all conditions of the ship. Yes, it is 16 years old but fairly well maintained. After a nervous experience leaving Ft. Laud. on the morning of the cruise-the original plane returned to the gate with a serious mechanical problem-we were able to board another and arrive at Laguardia about 2 hours later than scheduled. Taxi to the pier was efficient-30 minute ride- and we were on-board by 1:30.
Cabin was quite adequate and the steward was accommodating. The location at Front St. is excellent, very convenient. Harbour Night on Wednesday is a big nothing but good for people-watching. Did open seating, normally arriving around 8pm and never had more than a 20 minute wait. Found the service overall quite good and the food also, more "gourmet" type dishes than on previous trips. The only touring we did was taking the ferry to the Dockyard and back which was fun. Since we live in Florida the beaches don't excite us too much. Took the HAL transfer bus back to LGA.
The ride through NYC was interesting-a busy place, even on Sunday morning. Upon approaching the Main Terminal our driver told us that the bus was too high to fit under the terminal overhang. We were dropped off approx. 75 yds from the terminal and on our own to get up the hill to checkin with our respective airlines, carrying our own luggage. Not good HAL service!! Overall, good memories and we will sail on another DAM ship in the future.
