Overall our experience on Carnival Elation was a good one. We traveled with our 3 children ages 27, 22,& 15 all girls. We chose two interior cabins for this trip. The rooms are spacious and clean, but in need of renovation. I was surprised there were no refrigerators in the rooms, which other ships have.
The dinners were fine, but not great. The pizza was good as were the sandwiches on the buffet. The desserts were pretty good in both the dining room and on the buffet.
The ships entertainment was just okay. We were on NCL in January and the dancers and singers were fabulous and the shows were top notch. Carnival seemed more amateur. We did enjoy learning the "thriller" dance; however, they did that on NCL as well and then one night all those who learned the dance performed it in a small lounge for other guests. I have to say the comedian on our cruise was really funny and we enjoyed his 18+ show.
We did have an incident when my husband helped break up a fight that broke out during lunch in the buffet. Security was slow in responding, as they claim they were busy checking passengers back in from a port we had stopped at. Regardless, we felt they should have responded quicker as the fight escalated over 8 - 10 minutes, until punches were thrown. (Parents need to watch their kids when off the ship, these guys got drunk in Mexico with no supervision)
The staff was friendly, our room steward was wonderful.
Overall we had a good vacation.
