There is no better way to visit Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary then on a river boat. This was our first river cruise and it may well be the best cruise that we have taken and we are already looking forward to our next one. It was so nice not being one of several thousand passengers waiting to tour each new port. They provided us with our headsets and receivers right in our cabin so we were always ready to begin the tour without that usual delay of waiting for the tour guide to distribute the electronic gear and teach everyone how to use it. (More touring and less testing)

It is a brand new boat design which seems to work very well. One thing that they need to go back to the drawing board on is the acoustics in the dining room as it was quite noisy at dinner. We were told that this is an issue that they are aware of and it will be addressed. The food was very good and the portions while not huge were sufficient as they allowed us to enjoy all of the courses More each night without feeling too guilty about all the desserts that we were eating. The cabins are, by Ocean cruising standards a bit smaller but quite adequate and as we discovered from speaking with our fellow passengers actually equal to or better than most others in the river boat category.

I guess the highest compliment that I can pay is by answering the question "would we do it again?" by saying we absolutely would! Less

Cabin review: Viking Njord 316

The Veranda Suite is a very nice design and having a "real" veranda is a welcome addition to river cruising. A very quiet cabin design. Televisions are mounted on interior rather than common walls so there was never an issue of noise from our neighbors.
