Awesome Ship for a One Time Experience

Sail Date: July 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

The overall experience was very, very good. For the cost, it was well worth it for a one time experience but we have had a similar quality on Celebrity for less. For those guests who would use the rock climbing, flowrider, and other sports facilities, it is worth the extra cost. Two of the items we really enjoy were missing on this ship - comfortable chairs on our balcony and a comfortable adult area. We always pay the extra to have a balcony room and like to have comfortable chairs to read, have coffee in the morning, and drinks in the evening. The upright, non-adjustable chairs on the Allure's balcony and the noise from the Boardwalk did not allow us to enjoy the balcony. The adult area is constructed with glass over it which holds and magnifies the heat. If this were an Alaskan cruise it would have been great to have the hot house effect but in the Caribbean it was at least 100 degrees in the area at all times which left us to deal with the general family area.

We sailed More out of Ft. Lauderdale and had an excellent boarding experience. The process was very fast and friendly. Boarding over 6,000 passengers went smoothly in a clean and well organized process. Our room was ready when we boarded which was very nice and our luggage was delivered before dinner.
We went immediately to have the roast beef sandwiches in Central Park. The restaurant serves very fresh salad, sandwiches and sides. You have to have the roast beef sandwiches to say that you really experienced the ship. They are actually Beef on Weck from upper state New York, and absolutely wonderful!
We made reservations ahead of time for all the shows and our anytime dining. This organized our days but left the balance of the day for us to relax and do things as we wished. All of the shows were excellent and varied. The talent was great and sometimes unique: the ice skaters and water show especially. If you are interested in seeing the shows, I would not board this ship without making show reservations ahead of time.

We enjoyed the any time dining and had great service. We requested the same waiter each night and he did an outstanding job getting to know us and our preferances. Thanks Ronald! The selections were very good and the service very, very attentive. The ship is beautiful and has a great variety of shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed the restaurants for breakfast instead of the buffet. We did miss having freshly grilled burgers by the pool that we have had on other ships. The only food by the pool at the aft of the ship is only fair and a long walk from the pool areas. This does keep the pool areas easier to clean which is nice since the ship is so crowded.

We did have a mishap when we attended Rita's Fiesta. One of the waiters spilled a full drink on my friend. He took care of it with a replacement drink and she was offered a free cleaning of her clothes. Because of the cost of the outfit she was not comfortable having the ship do the cleaning. Had the ship ruined the outfit, the damage coverage would not have replaced the outfit. Even though we asked for some other accommodation at Guest Services, we were not offered anything. This was extremely disappointing and did not provide a good guest experience.

The casino is larger than many of the ships but had only one of our favorite slots - Jackpot Party. The machine is a favorite of many and was always busy. I would think the manager could tell that this machine is bringing in more than others and they would bring in another. The separation between smoking and non-smoking in the casino works well here and on other parts of the ship due to its size.

Overall, we had a lot of fun and were glad we had the experience of being on the ship. Less

Cabin review: Allure of the Seas 9329

Balcony rooms are available over Boardwalk and Cental Park. We were in the last room aft on deck 9 overlooking the Boardwalk. We did not enjoy as much of a sea view as we had hoped even though the back of the ship is open. There was a lot of noise from the Boardwalk that took away from our expected experience. This came from the games and bells from the deck. We spoke to guests who were over Central Park who also indicated that their rooms were noisy. I would not pay the extra for a balcony room unless it is on the outside of the ship. We also found the chairs to be too uncomfortable to sit in to use the balcony as we normally do on cruises. It was fun to watch the aqua show from the balcony. The rock climbing and zipline is quiet and fun to watch. It was OK for a one time experience but we would not do it again.
