Our Viking cruise On teh Viking Emerald in China was the best trip we have been on. The sites, tours, food and beverage service were all above expectations! The ship itself was new and lovley, clean, shiny, beautifully decorated and well laid out. The cabins were good-very clean, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The room and veranda were comfy and the bath was fine for our needs. I am picky about linens and ours were first rate.
Our tour guide (or our loyal and benevolent caretaker) was absolutely the BEST! James told us facts, stories and legends. He took great pains to make sure we saw everything we wanted and understood what we saw. He gave us shopping tips and advice as well as eating tips and advice! James made a huge contribution to our enjoyment of the trip. He was with us on land, river and in the air.
The Viking company is so well respected in China that when we were tied up in traffic and late for the plane, James called ahead and they held the plane for us and expedited us through security. WOW! When do you remember having that done for you! We were also first to go in the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit so we had a better view than later visitors. We got the autograph of the last surviving farmer who discovered the warriors.
The bar manager, Lois, was wonderful! She really took care of us-we were traveling with 2 friends and made a connection with another couple and made a lively table of 6. We were treated like royalty!
We could not have been happier with our cruise! One thing I really like is that all ground excursions are included in the price-with maybe one or two minor dinners/performances. This makes it easy to project your expenses!
We have already planned another one for next year with Viking to Transylvania!
