Travelled to Spitsbergen (Svalbad) and the North Cape of Norway on Fred. Olsen Cruise Line MS Boudicca July 2012.
Great service from start to finish. Speedy embarkation and (sadly) also quick disembarkation at the end of the trip.
Wanted a change for our summer holiday and decided that this particular cruise ticked that box.
We were not disappointed. Ny Alesund and Longyearbyen were two of the ports of call. They are as remote as it gets and was great to visit, as I understand the authorities there are looking to restrict the amount of visitors to these places.
In addition, the captain took the ship past the 80 degree North Latitude marker, anything above which is considered Polar!
Service on board was excellent. Entertainment by the Boudicca show company was excellent. The comedian and cabaret however were not of a similar high standard.
Cabins were clean and spacious. Public areas clean and tidy. All food prepared and served to a high standard.
Hygiene measures implemented by Fred. Olsen have got to be as strict as it gets. Guests are fully briefed regards the importance of using hand gels before entering the ship from being ashore and prior to entering the dining areas.
Despite this, and it really was unbelievable to watch, there was still a minority of selfish and inconsiderate passengers who did not make use of these before entering dining areas. There are usually captain waiters who monitor guests entering these areas, however guests would walk in without using the gels if the captain waiters back was turned for a minute!! Am sure these passengers would be the first to complain should they contract Norovirus.
All in all though, an excellent cruise with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, a company which I would recommend to anyone who appreciates good service, good company and a relaxing time. If your idea of dressing for dinner involves wearing a clean vest after getting drunk at the all inclusive bar, then Fred. Olsen may not be for you!
