Very disappointing, but we made the best of it

Sail Date: July 2012
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

I know the Sensation is one of the older boats, but I read so much about how in 2009 it went through a major renovation, so I figured it was going to be good. Boy was I wrong

If you don't care about how the boat looks then this boat might be fine, if you care though, boy is this the wrong boat. The first thing you are greeted with is a huge purple room. It seriously looks like a 80s casino. They should have left the rooms without LCD TVs and update the public spaces. Would have been money better spent.

The cruise line also changed the time we were in Nassau. Instead of being in port until 5pm, we were there until 5am the next day. You would think this would be great, an extra 12 hours, we thought it would be great too. However when they say you are stuck with the same excursion and wont let you change without charging you a 25% fee, it sucks. Instead you are stuck doing a short excursion on a long day.

Otherwise the trip was great.

We are kosher, and More they accommodated us perfectly. All the ice cream, coffee, tea, iced tea, lemonade, etc on board was kosher. The meals were pretty much ready when we requested them. We didn't have to wait long for meals at all which was nice.

The one disappointing thing I noticed was the lack of proper dress in the dining room. I have never seen so many people wearing shorts, tank tops, etc in the main dining room. Even on the formal night there wasn't a large number of people dressed up. They wore their jeans without rips in them that night to get fancy.

The first night on board we hit up the spa and had a really nice couple's massage. Everyone there was super friendly and very helpful and informative.
Once the Nassau issues were taken care of, we had a great time there.

When we got to Freeport they canceled all outdoor excursions due to rain. However by 9am it was bright and sunny. We found a local place to take us snorkeling instead which worked out much better. There were only 6 of us on the trip, and they took us out on a glass bottom boat. It was really gorgeous seeing all the reefs!

Our day at sea was great. Being on our honeymoon we wanted to relax. We spent ours in Serenity (21+ only) and just enjoyed the 85 weather. It would have been nice to have had a private pool, but it was still really nice.

We also hit up the comedy club a few times. Definitely is nice that they have an adult only show nightly! Less

Cabin review: Carnival Sensation R20

The location of this room was great, since it was toward the front and no elevators past it, we were able to really sleep well without hallway noise. The only people walking by would be going specifically to their room, and there was only about 10 cabins past us. The 3 closet sections was more than enough for the 2 of us for 4 nights, we only used the shelves in 1 and a couple hanging things in the other. The third stayed untouched.

Port and Shore Excursions

Snorkeling

(5.5)
We were originally support to go snorkeling through the boat which got canceled ($70 each). Instead we did this privately and it worked out so much better ($50 each, $20 each savings). They drove us about 15 minutes to their boat. It was a glass bottom boat that they took us out in over the coral. We then go an hour of snorkeling (20 minutes more than through boat) and the coral was so close the the surface, it was so nice. After snorkeling the guide drove the boat by the dolphin expierence nearby, and docked right outside of their cages. It was great because we got to watch everything for free from 20 feet away. We were then taken on a short water tour of some nice homes before being brought back to the boat. It was definitely $50 well spent!

Atlantis Aquaventure

The excursion itself was great. We had a really good time their due to our full day. If your excursion was only until 2-3 because of the time you have to leave the port, I wouldn't recommend it. The lines are too long for a short stay and a high price tag. Additionally there is zero security. I would recommend you save yourself $180 bucks and take a taxi.
