All the negative posts had us wondering what we were getting ourselves into.
My Partner and I cruised on July 01 after arriving two days early to see Seattle. This was our 5th cruise, 2nd time to Alaska and 1st on Holland America. We had a great time and were pleasantly pleased with the entire cruise.
Our Cabin was 5186 Aft. It had a covered large balcony which was very private and quite; nice surprise!
Tracy Arm was amazing! They opened the crew bow area for us to use for viewing. The Captain was able to get us as close as possible to the glacier. This closeness plus the fantastic scenery made the time memorable.
We ate twice at the Pinnacle Grill; once for lunch and then for dinner. Both times were very nice and well worth the up-charge. For breakfast and most lunches we ate the Lido.
The wait staff were fantastic. We got to know Mini, who worked there and greeted us by name everyday. This made it just that much more special. For the evening meals, we chose 'open setting' which worked out good. The maitre' de sat us at a great table every night.
We did arrive late into Victoria, but the HAL arranged free transportation to downtown. Instead of taking the bus which of course had a line, we opted to split a cab with another couple we meet from LA. The fare was only $9 each way.
We do have to mention that the room steward "Ferman" and his team were exceptional! They had the room ready and clean every time we returned to the cabin.
Overall the we were both very happy with HAL.
