Carnival Victory Southern Caribbean - Excellent

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

A 5 star experience!

Here are some helpful tips for the boat followed by each port!

Beach towels/Laundry

no need to bring beach towels they provide them. There is laundry facilities with an iron so no need to worry about this either.

Drinks

Unless you drink alot of pop no need to buy the bottomless bubbles package for 50US as this is a waste of money. Free apple juice, orange juice, lemonade, iced tea and water with every meal! If you drink beer, the prices range from 4.95 US - 5.95 US, the bucket of beers is the best deal as you save $2 on 4 beers. Drinks of the day are quite expensive 7.95-8.95, but if you save your plastic glass you will save $2 on each drink. Wine: with dinner it is cheaper to purchase 5 bottles/$112 during your first days there, but only if you plan to eat in the dining room. Bring an insulated drinking bottle for fill ups and day trips

Food

Fabulous but the lineups for breakfast buffet are ridiculous. The More dining room meals are excellent but know it takes about 115mins for the entire meal to be finished. No rush and you will not be hungry. there are not alot of snacks on board but there is always food available - between midnight and early hours it is pizza, until midnight, hamburgers, fries, etc.

Pool lounge chairs,

Hard to come by, adults only serenity level is beautiful but HOT, hottubs are small but seems everyone was happy. The best view is leaving the various ports, a definite to do on your list

Rooms

Well, if you want a balcony, get one! The aft of the boat is definately quieter (and beautiful view if you can get a room at the back of the boat) as there is less traffic but more boat noise (hydrolics). The mid of the boat is noisy due to people accessing the elevators. The main floor (2) is very quiet but it is oceanview only. there is an awful smell in the 2200 areas. The rooms are large for a cruise 224square ft, and clean!!

You are on a boat so you will feel it rock especially around 9-midnght as the boat speeds up to get you to the next dock, you dont feel it during the day! You tend to feel it more mid ship, not sure why.

St. Thomas

The most expensive cab rides are here. I suggest walking to the end of the port before you get a cab or you will pay more. Expect to pay between 8-10US p/p each way from Magens beach or Secret Harbour Bay (really nice beach and private with toilets you can use and a restaurant where you can get a pizza for 14US and some drinks). Spectacular view. The shopping around the port is very reasonable and the prices for jewelery are great. Yes, there is a Sr Frogs and a Harley shop

Barbados

Cab drives - 5-10 US p/p - but everything else is SOOOO expensive, people seem rude but they are not it is just their way and you have to pay to use the toilets. Bermuda beach bar is 12US coverage charge but it covers your cab back, pays for your umbrella and beach chair and there is a great restaurant with free wifii. The sand really is pink here! Bridgetown is very busy with lots of fast food restaurants but very hard to find a local food restaurant unless you go to the shopping mall. nice town with a beautiful waterfront. There is a harley shop here.

St. Lucia

I would highly recommend you book your tour with Cosol tours for 65US p/p (check it out on line) it is so worth it, you get to see the island, taste the island food, snorkle, see the Pitons, visit the drive through volcano and sulphur springs, taste the local bread, visit the gardens, visit the beach... the sand has tiny volcanic rock so beach shoes are good if you hate that feeling! St. Lucia is beautiful and I highly recommend the spices and banana ketcup

St. Kitts

Beautiful beach, would suggest just taking a cab and going to a beach or taking a catamarin ride to capture the beauty of St. Kitts/St. Nevis. From St. Kitts you can catch a ferry for 20US p/p return to St. Nevis and then a cab to Pinney beach the most beautiful beach ever.... the shopping is great here to (yes there is a harley shop and fat tuesdays ... the people are awesome.

St Maarten/St. Martin

I would definately do an island tour and beach bash as this is the best way to see and understand this island boasting of both its french/dutch side. The french side has nice restaurants and nude beaches, the orient beach is by far the most beautiful beach on the altantic ocean. (try bikini beach bar)The dutch side has casinos, fast food restaurants and great shopping. The market in phillipsburg is something you definately do not want to miss!!! I loved this town.

San Juan

Horrible airport and very disorganized! But do not panic, just give yourself about 21/2 hours to catch your flight. If only 2 of you well, transportation to and from the cruise ship is reasonable directly from carnival but if more the cab ride (go to the bottom of the airport) is about 20US total with 1 for each piece of luggage. It is about a 1/2hr ride.

IF you have any questions dont hesitate to ask we loved this cruise and have booked our next one Less
