First Cruise with teenagers, we didn't want anything too formal but we wanted it to be special.
Took advice of travel agent to book with Royal Caribbean
We had 2 cabins 6574 - deluxe balcony E2 and 6575 - promenade room.
6575 is a connecting cabin- DO NOT book if you are not using the connecting room because it is extremely noisy - you can hear everything in the next cabin and if like on our trip they are noisy Spanish people then you won't get much sleep. Connecting cabins are great if you are using both of them but NOT otherwise. We complained but the ship was full so we would not have been moved. Guest services weren't overly interested when complaint was made.
Both cabins were spotlessly clean but in 6574 the upholstery on the sofa was grubby and there were some chips in the bathroom mirrors.
Apart from these two comments the cabins were clean, comfortable well equipped and the steward/attendant was really lovely and helpful.
Ship was full to capacity - no room in the pool when the ship was at sea - standing room only. Just about managed to get a sun lounger on days at sea!
On days in port the pool wasn't as busy and no problem getting a sun bed.
Public areas quite clean - carpets dirty on stairs but the rest of the places were clean, plenty of hygenic hand wash.
Immediate pool areas grubby and you had to run the gauntlet of all the smokers when going onto the pool/deck areas
Resturants: Main Dining rooms - good good, not always hot, plenty of it. Good waiter service
Windjammer: busy at breakfast & lunch, quieter at night, better food at dinner. Lovely deserts and fruit, hot food average. All would have been much nicer if not eating off plastic plates and drinking out of plastic cups and glasses.
Didn't go to Johnny Rockets or Portofino because of cover charge.
Went to one show - quite good.
Did our own thing in ports and saved money, and enjoyed the peace and quiet on the ship when everyone else was off.
On the whole it was slightly disappointing, not the expected luxury and far too busy. If we ever go cruising again we will choose cruise line more carefully, we won't travel with our teenagers who weren't interested in the clubs etc and will choose an adults only cruise. We probably aren't right for cruising because it was all just a little bit too "holiday camp" for us and not the sort of entertainment we would chose.
Couldn't fault the transfer arrangements or RCI - very slick, no holdups.
All staff on the ship were very helpful but did feel a little bit like they were only in it for the end of cruise tips - we were more or less told this by our waiter which then made us feel very uncomfortable about all the attentive service we got.
Final word is that Royal Caribbean need to get a grip on the smokers and where they smoke because it seems to be anything goes - smoking in bar areas, all around the pool - ugh!
