Ship Facts: Rotterdam Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Rotterdam Deck Plans
Voyage ot Norway ,Shetland Isles and Scotland
We left Rotterdam on Saturday 2nd June , our forth trip with Holland America .The embarkation was fast and efficient one can tell that they have done this so many times that they have become expert The ship is beautiful, very clean, and the cabin was all we required, clean and well presented .

But now some of the negatives . The head of Holland America in Seattle needs to have a big think on how Holland America is heading ,one can cut prices to attract guests(our price fell considerably) but if they are going to cut down on standards they are just going to loose customers to other cruise lines . The main complaint was the food . The Lido was more like a canteen with cold unappetising fare ,when one goes on holiday one hopes for something a little bit special. We found the standard in the Fontaine dinning room high on other voyages ,but definitely not this time, the service was slow and dishes poorly presented and not well cooked.

The ships staff should be praised as we believe they have been reduced in number but seem to be expected to do the same amount of work , they were forever cheerful and did all they could to make the voyage pleasant, although they had to try to keep an epidemic of Gastroenteritis at bay by cleaning day and night .

There were many instances, to many to list where services have been cut to the bone ,its a great pity which once was a four star trip has become a two to three star experience .We heard this so many times that it must get back to the head office in Seattle ,Lets hope they do something about it otherwise regular voyagers will leave for other cruise lines .

The standard of the entertainment was perhaps one or two star . One person playing an instrument for the one hour show ,is not really riveting.

We did not like the loss of the swimming pool at the stern of the ship which seems to have been replaced by we are not sure what , its like an ankle deep children's wading pool .with bar stools .All very strange .It must have a use but as we didn't see anybody use it .we are not sure what it is for.

We also wonder about the smoking being allowed in the Casino as the smell seems to dominate that section of the ship .Perhaps the need is for increased ventilation in that area . This all seems a bit negative, but it is from this that we hope improvements are made ,and we can once again enjoy a WOW factor with Holland America
