Atlantic coast cruise on Oceana

Sail Date: June 2012
Destination: Other
Embarkation: Southampton

This was our forts cruise with P&O so we had no real expectations which me4ant we were able to relax and go with the flow so to speak.

Embarkation was allegedly staggered but there was a short queue to embark but all in all a very smooth process and we were able to access our cabin after lunch in the Horizon court.
Service in general aboard was very good although it took us a whole to adjust to the less intrusive style of service after our experiences with Princess. The cabin was always immaculately kept and the ship was constantly being cleaned-this may have been due to the special event today but I would like to think not.

The vast majority of staff were pleasant and helpful and there was a full range of activities to enjoy if you had the inclination or energy to do so.

The entertainment, in particular the headliners theatre group were very good and we saw almost all of their shows-a very high standard.

There were guest speakers, singers and a More magician. The entertainment was timed so that you could attend a pre- dinner and an after dinner show if you wished.

We had the later fixed dining option which was of a good standard, the vegetable choices were sometimes a little random in terms of the main course s, but that only added to the conversation over dinner with fellow diners.

We did venture to the Cafe jardin for a special occasion and as MPW was on board towards the end of the week we expected it to feel special. It was a real disappointment, a view which although personal was not in isolation amongst others we spoke to.

All in all we really enjoyed the cruise and the ports were interesting and varied, the company at dinner engaging and we would book again in a heartbeat. Disembarkation was smooth and efficient and we were in our car and driving away within 10 minutes of leaving the ship. Less

Cabin review: Oceana Balcony Stateroom with Shower A Deck

Port and Shore Excursions

we walked into the town centre and went to the Almeda gardens which were lovely and free to enter. If you can walk three times round the deck you will be fine walking in and there is a shuttle bus to and from the port which costs a few pounds. beware of the tour buses offering tours for £20+ as you can walk to the gardens and the cable car easily and there were very short queues. Shopping was good if you want cheap alcohol etc and bartering for clothing etc appeared to be OK if initiated by the vendor -the price went down dramatically if you try to leave without buying.

Private Tour

(5.5)
independent tour of Sintra, Estoril and Belem booked online with people who dislike tourists? A fabulous day which we will repeat next year when we visit again.

we did a ships walking tour of Cadiz which was good but you can walk around the city alone, following the lines painted on the pavements, all within easy reach of the ship. A very interesting and picturesque city with lots of beautiful squares, buildings and a cathedral.

Cies Island

(5)
a beautiful, totally unspoilt island with a superb beach. No frills at all and not a sun lounger in sight. Full of locals enjoying the sunshine.
