Ship Facts: Celebrity Summit Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Celebrity Summit Deck Plans
Good Cruise on Summit
First the good. The ship was clean and the staff friendly and helpful to a fault. We've been on 4 different cruise lines so we have a broad view of what each offers. We really liked the fact that drinks weren't hawked on us as they were on the other 3 lines. It was great to go to a venue and be asked only once if we wanted a drink and then left alone if we said ' No thanks.'

We went to one of the specialty restaurants Qsine and it was well worth the $40 extra per person. I highly recommend it. If you go be sure to go hungry.

We also liked the adults-only pool. It was a salt water pool but not really that salty and it was one of 3 pools on the ship. We traveled Aqua Class and here is probably our first negative.

Is Aqua class worth the extra price? You get to eat in a special restaurant called Blu where the food was very good. You get special pillows, something called aroma therapy in your room ( it's easy to miss) and exclusive access to the Persian Gardens ( steam bath and sauna). Basically the answer is 'No'. You can eat in Blu for a few extra dollars if you want and even though we ate in Blu we often ordered from the main dining menu. Aqua class also provides you priority check in and a room of your own where you can go to disembark. Celebrity clearly has to offer more to justify the additional cost. I would get a balcony room in the future but not go Aqua class.

We went on one shore excursion and I will tell everyone not to go on this one as it is a complete rip off. We went to the English Tea which my daughter wanted to experience. It was combined with a tour of the island. The tour was OK but don't pay for the tea. They take you to a closed restaurant where they put you all at one long table ( they were too lazy to let you sit at your own separate table with your own family). The waiter brings out a bunch of things - none of which he identified- and walked backing the kitchen. Of all the people we met on the cruise they were the most inhospitable. If you take one thing from this review don't go on that excursion. It cost $90 per person and I hope someone from Celebrity reads this and takes the off the excursion list. To add insult to injury the place they take you has a light house. They actually charge you $2.50 to climb 20 stories to the top of the light house. Hint: if you do go or just visit the light house just climb to the top anyway as there isn't anyone watching.

If you are taking this ship for the entertainment, think again. Of the ships we've been on this was the worst for entertainment. There were shows but nothing to write home about. The lounge acts were terrible. There were two exceptions. One was an acapella group who were moderately OK. The group who played on deck, however, were fabulous. They also played at night in one of the forward lounges..

Just one other note. Don't sign up for wireless Internet. I paid $25 for 38 minutes and it was so slow as to be virtually worthless. It was the one thing I went and complained about to customer service. They said they were sorry but no refund.

All in all a good ship and a good cruise. With the few exceptions above we had a very good time. I would cruise with Celebrity again. We cruised from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ.
