We sailed on the Monarch on June 4th sailing, 4 days, this was our 4th cruise, our first on Royal Caribbean (others were on Carnival). I was a bit concerned because of some of the reviews, but everything was fine.
Check in at Port Canaveral was quick and uneventful.
The ship was obviously older than some of the other ships, you could see some wear on the carpets - but nothing terrible The rooms were smaller, but we could have upgraded to a bigger room if we thought we needed more room. There was not a safe in the room.
The ship is small, but I kinda liked that I knew how to get from one place to another. Plenty big enough for a 4 day cruise and my experience with larger ships is that there are less staff per person.
The staff was very helpful and extremely friendly. We had a couple of issues, but everything was taken care of quickly.
Food in the dining room was good to excellent. We ate there one day at lunch and the make your own salad bar was fantastic. I was not impressed with the buffet at the Windjammer, definitely felt like cafeteria food. I guess that is one place where Carnival excels, even on the small ships they have fresh grilled burgers, Mongolian BBQ and eggs cooked to order for breakfast. We did enjoy the soft serve ice cream machine.
