Western Med Cruise

Sail Date: July 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

We sailed (2 adults 2 9 year olds) on Disney's Magic for 11 nights in the Western Mediterranean to the ports of Valletta/Malta, Palermo/Sicily, Naples/Italy, Civitavecchia/Rome/Italy, La Spezia/Florence/Italy, Ajaccio/Corsica, Palma/Mallorca. Embarking in the wonderful Catalan city of Barcelona.

We sailed July 9th to July 20th arriving morning of July 9th.

Embarkation was embarkation except for the fact that when the check in person tried to give us a Gold lanyard for our son's friend who was not gold the supervisor had a fit and would not allow the person checking us in to give us the gold lanyard..he slipped it to us anyway. We waited quite a while to board the ship but once on all was smooth.

Our cabin steward was great and we were well taken care of.

Some of the UGLY. Our Head Server was a complete JERK. Before we had gotten on board I had requested a specific server..not once but twice! When we get to dinner the first night we don't have the server More we requested so we talked to the head server who told us that it was our fault as we should have gone to guest services when we got on board. He would not reassign David to our table! David wound up spending time with us anyway and our actual assigned server was terrific but just not David!

Disney has apparently transferred a whole bunch of the really good staff to the new ships as some of the crew just was not up to usual DCL standards. 5 or 6 mornings on the ship when my husband went to get coffee or milk at the beverage station they were either out of coffee, milk or 1/2 & 1/2 for the coffee (2 mornings there was a woman standing there restocking cups and lids but not taking care of restocking the actual beverages)

Palo was AMAZING as always! The rest of the food...well it is cruise food and our expectations are never high so when we had a couple of really yummy items it was a wonderful surprise.

As always the excursions were TOP NOTCH and it shows that DCL chooses who they use carefully. There is not enough space for me to write about all our wonderful adventures.

While we had to skip a port due to high winds in true DCL style we cruised to another port...got the excursion we wanted in the new port and had a ball.

Debarkation was flawless and we got on our final excursion to Montserrat and it was WONDERFUL and were dropped off at our hotel.

While there were some negatives we would NEVER cruise any another cruise line(until we are older with out child) other than DCL.
We have our next 3 cruises booked! Less
