Sailed on Triumph Ship May 26, 2012 out of Galveston to Progreso & Cozumel. 11 in our group, including 3 nieces (ages 18 - 20 & 23) celebrating graduations. 13 hour car trip from Missouri to Galveston. Played lots of road trip games. Stayed overnight at Baymont Inn in South Houston - 38 miles north of Galveston Pier. good Hotel - clean - good location - great rates - $150 total for 3 rooms.
Everything about our cruise was great - easy embarkation - in cabins by 1:30. Beautiful & clean ship - good food - great shows. Cozumel was good (Mr. Sanchos Beach) beautiful turquoise water & great beach. good snorkeling right next to the shore.
Progreso was very nice-free bus shuttle to town - walked 3 blocks thru town to Malecon & Beach - free beach chairs, tables & umbrellas - very friendly people - taken care of by waiters from Los Cocos across the street from the beach- $3 beers - $20 massages right on the beach - beach right next to the long Progreso Pier - clean & beautiful beach and nice shallow calm water w/soft sandy bottom. We all loved it - much more relaxed & friendly than Cozumel - not so commercialized.
We did almost EVERYTHING on the ship - shows were all fantastic. Tony from our group won the Master Mixology Contest:Frozen blue Drink "Plastered Castaway" very fun & entertaining on Lido Deck. Tony was also 1 of 4 contestants in the Superstar Live show - sang "Georgia" - got a ship on a stick & bottle of champagne. Did a lot of Trivia - Kareoke - bingo - won a beautiful Pandora Bead Bracelet in the raffle. David (nephew 23) was a finalist in the Slot Tourney - won a T-shirt. We hit the trifecta & won 3 Ships on a Stick. Tea Time is great - specialty cakes/pastries & tea sandwiches. Loved the sushi Bar, 24 hour pizza & soft serve ice cream. Mexican buffet was good & kids loved the Lido dancing & 230+ congo line (which they led!). Stayed on Lido Deck - 5 interior cabins; great large "private" deck at end of our hall - quiet & relaxing & caught a few sunsets there. cabin steward was good - unobtrusive - kept us supplied in ice & towel animals. "Tex" Cruise Director was great & really funny. We had priority VIP disembarkation - off ship and driving home by 8:30 AM Would highly recommend Carnival Triumph - only downside - I think I gained 10 lbs.
