As first time cruisers we were apprehensive, particularly as we booked the day the Costa went down and only discovered it when we turned on the TV news. We needn't have worried, Celebrity provided us with a first class cruise experience.
We flew to Barcelona from Heathrow and on arrival at the port were told that as we were too early to check in on the ship they had arranged a city tour for us free of charge. This was an unexpected bonus which we enjoyed and got us off to a good start.
Our stateroom was very good and had a balcony (we had been recommended by friends to make sure we booked one and we were glad we did. Our attendant was Arthur Gomez - first class in every way.
The positives of the cruise were:
Beautiful ship, wonderful design
Excellent customer service
High quality and well presented food
Interesting itinerary with a mix of at sea and shore days. We visited Naples, Venice, Rome, Florence, Dubrovnik, Toulon, Corsica.
All guides for the excursions we took were extremely knowledgeable, professional and friendly
Very full programme of activities with something to suit everyone
Entertainment programme very good
The negatives of the cruise were:
Upselling - some of the spa talks etc ended with them trying to sell you treatments or items etc
Drinks expensive
MEMORABLE MOMENT: sailing into Venice in the sunshine with the music of Andrea Bocelli being played over the sound systems. It was pure magic.
To sum it up: we loved it and can't wait to plan our next one!
