Cruising on Disneys new Fantasy ship has been a blast. We traveled the Western Caribbean May 26-June 2nd. Upon boarding, we toured the entire ship and were astonished at all the amazing details that could only be found with Disney. We had lunch at the Enchanted Gardens which was like walking into paradise. Highly recommend you eat your embarkment lunch there as the buffet is delicious and relaxing compared to Cabanas on deck 11. The first night after dinner we rode the aqua duck since no one was on it. Was a little worried it would have a huge drop but instead there are three small drops and it gradually tapers to the bottom. You do go fast and suggest you ride in the front if you don't want to get as wet. We then spent time in the hot tub to warm up which has a glass bottom and you can see the ocean.
The next day was a sea day and ended up being really excited for the captain picked up 4 cuban refuges. Our room overlooked the rescue and we were able to see that More
the boat they were on was made of inter tubes with a tarp over them and all their possessions were in a trash bag. Not sure how long they were at sea. On the 6th night the caption saw another boat that had USA spay painted on it but when we got closer it was empty. Very sad that these people are trying desperately to leave their country that they risk their lives to cross the ocean.
The food was really delicious and the menus are great. The portion size was also perfect and you can always order two meals if you can't decide what to get. Our family has food allergies and they take it really seriously. We got to order the night before and they check out all the ingredients to make sure the food was ok to eat for the next day. They even have glutton free bread and it was really good. We found the servers to be top notch and very hardworking and professional. Disney did a wonderful job training its crew.
The room was beautifully decorated and clean. You don't need to bring shampoo or conditioner for they supply it in each room. The blow dryer worked great - I guess Disney heard the complaints from the Dream and did a great job finding the right voltage. Remember to plug it into the round slot for it to work at full capacity.
Our son loved the Edge. He is 13 and was able to go to Vibe but he enjoyed playing with the younger kids. He had a blast and we did not see him the entire cruise except for dinner. The wave phones in the room were great. We were able to reach him at any time and his friends were texting him too so they could meet up.
My husband and I joined the boot camp each morning at 9 and got a great workout on the basket ball court. They worked us hard for 30 minutes but it allowed us to eat as much as we wanted without gaining weight. The gym was small and really crowded in the mornings. No body was in the gym in the afternoon so that would be the best time to go.
The adult areas were really nice and not very crowded. If you don't have kids you would never even know there were kids on board if you stayed in those areas. Loved hanging out in the waterfall adult pool.
The movie theater had great movies showing including Avengers and Cars2 in 3D The surround sound was amazing. We played miniature golf, and the muppet scavenger hunt was so much fun. We were all over the ship looking for clues. Only went to see the play Wishes but watched the others in the stateroom on tv. Excellent!
Did not like the laundry room for very difficult to figure out how to run the machines. The dryers don't get things dry so purchase the longest time.
We did not get off at the first three ports but had the entire ship to ourselves. We rode the aqua duck again three times for no lines. We purchased a spa pass for $16 a day and had access to the rainforest showers, hot tubs and heated chairs.
Disney also did a great job with organizing the photos. You can see them on the computer and also in folders on a bookshelf. No more looking on a wall to try to find your face.
We had an amazing time and highly recommend this cruise to everyone. It was so much fun and wish we were still there! Less
We were in room 12028. Lots of space for your clothes. Loved the location. It is on the concierge floor and on the end near an emergency door . It also has a connecting door to a suite next door. It was across from the crew space but we did not hear any noise. Loved that it was near the adult area and right above the spa and gym. Also easy access to elevators and close to the aqua duck. The view from the verandah was nice but had a white ladder obstructing the view to the back of the boat.
The changes to Castaway Cay were great. Disney expanded the area since we were there a few years earlier. The Island is well maintained and very clean. A very safe environment for the kids to experience the beach and ocean. They now have a water slide and a tram to get you to the different beaches without having to walk. Very nice.
