What a great time we had

Sail Date: May 2012
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

We were fortunate enough to have sailed on the Carnival Splendor on 20th May, 2012. This was our first ever cruise and as a family of 4 we were slightly nervous about whether we would like a cruise and whether it would ' suit ' or family.

From the moment we arrived at Long Beach we were suprised and excited about easier everything was. We dropped our bags off , we got our keys, we bought some pre cruise water, hats and souveniers. We boarded the ship in Zone 3 at 12.30pm and was eating a nice lunch on the Lido Deck by 1.00pm. Everything was smooth, professional and pleasant. After lunch, we had our room ready announcement at 2pm. By 2.30pm, we were ready to start our cruise and enjoyed a few hours at the rear of the ship waiting to sail.

The cruise was exactly what we needed as a family. The kids loved camp carnival ( 11 & 8 ) and we loved having time to ourselves after a long holiday travelling in USA. The comedy club was superb, in fact 3/4 of the four were top More class and I would pay to see them anyone in the world. Very funny and we took the kids to the family friendly shows and they loved them. SETH was outstanding. Currently listening to his CD now and still laughing.

We went to a few shows, BINGO, plenty of trivia events as well as regular visits to the Casino. All good, all never too crowded.

The LIDO deck buffets were good but not great. The food was at times a bit average. The resturant Black Pearl was on the other hand outstanding food. Really enjoyed our meals there. The ice cream machine, pizza bar and deli bar etc are all nice add ons and we all took part on them at various stages.

The PORTS , Cabo San LUCAS was very good, nice to see, not too expensive. Bought some nice take home stuff. Puerto Vallarta was in my opinion only average. We did some private tours at both locations which was not overly expensive but Cabo certainly the better option.

Cabin 2220 was excellent, despite having 9 large bags we had plenty of room and slept well. The anchor dropping at Port was very loud but we always awake by then. No issues.

Overall this cruise was exceptional value and a great way to relax. We are certainly keen to do it again. Carnival are excellent hosts, the ship was beautiful, staff pleasant and enthuastic and activites so much fun. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Splendor Interior Main 2220

Room was on Main Deck. It has two portholes. It was pretty choppy the seas and whilst you felt it no one in our party got sick at all. The noise of teh anchor was very loud but most time you were awake by then anyway. The room included a double bed which was comfortable. A single bed and pull down bed. All very comfortable. Bathroom was small but adequete. Room super clean inside and out. We had 9 large suitcases and were able to store them easily under our beds etc.

Port and Shore Excursions

Cabo San Lucas was a pretty port. We negotiated a water taxi at $60 for the 4 of us for 4 hours. Just the 4 of us in the boat. We did the circuit of all the sights and stopped off at Lovers Beach for a swim for about an hour. The driver was broken english but generous with his time. Bit rough the seas but OK. Very nice to see though. The rest of the marina was nice as well, reasonable priced souveniers.

The town is average to be honest. WE hired a private driver and he took us all over teh town on a tour for about 5 hours at $100 USD. WE stopped off in old centre and walked the boardwalk and witnessed a movie beng filmed at the time. Kids did parasailing at $35 each for about 10 minute ride. They loved it.
