Reviews give you a little information about a ship but nothing beats actual experience. Our Bermuda cruise on the Veendam was a pleasant experience. It was our daughter-in-law's graduation present for graduating from law school. The Veendam is a comfortable ship to sail on. It carries about 1400 passengers. The rooms were confortable, and the attendants kept them spotless. The only thing I found fault with was the food service on the Lido deck. You stood in line and pointed to what you wanted, then a steward placed it on your plate. The process would have moved faster if we could have served ourselves. But that was really just a minor inconvenience. What was terrible about the Lido restaurant was the noise from the basketball court which is just above the right (starboard) side. With just two people up there and one basketball the noise below was horrendous. We took our lunch out onto the deck. In Bermuda, the Veendam docked downtown. We were close to everything, and a short cab or bus ride from the outlying places. Bermuda's bus system is cheap and efficient. Finally, we arrived back in New York and had the best disembarkation I have seen in ten cruises. Two ladies from the terminal staff came onboard and set up the disembarkation point. It was right next to my cabin so I got to watch the entire operation. They then off-loaded all the passengers without any commotion or confusion, as is so common on other lines. They even handled a couple of big-mouths who wanted to game the system. They did an exceptional job. I will sail Holland America again and again. vp

Cabin review: Large Interior Stateroom

Port and Shore Excursions

Bermuda is one of the best places in the world to visit. Beautiful, scenic, not too expensive, and the home of Tom Moore's Tavern, one of the best restaurants in the world. There are so many great places to visit that you need several days to see all of them. And the weather? Always great.
